The company is building complex, first-of-kind platforms that bring together marine engineering, structural systems, motion control, and space launch operations. This is an opportunity to join a growing engineering team where you will have direct ownership over the design, analysis, fabrication, and integration of large-scale maritime structures
The Role:
We are seeking a Structural Engineer with strong maritime and shipyard experience to support the design and development of offshore platforms and marine structures. The ideal candidate has experience working with ABS requirements and Navy standards, understands how engineering decisions translate into real-world fabrication and shipyard execution, and is comfortable taking ownership of structural problems from initial design through construction and integration You will work closely with naval architects, mechanical and electrical engineers, project leadership, shipyards, fabricators, and external engineering partners to develop structures that meet demanding strength, stability, regulatory, and operational requirement's.
Responsibilities:
Perform structural analysis and engineering calculations for marine and offshore structures Develop and review structural designs, drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation Design and evaluate structural components including frames, decks, bulkheads, foundations, supports, and welded structures Apply ABS Rules, USCG requirements, Navy standards, and applicable marine engineering codes to structural design Conduct structural assessments for strength, fatigue, load paths, stability, and environmental loading Translate engineering requirements into practical designs that can be fabricated and assembled in a shipyard environment Work directly with shipyards, fabricators, and suppliers to resolve structural and fabrication issues Review fabrication drawings and identify constructability concerns before they reach the shipyard Support inspections, testing, installation, and structural integration activities Investigate field issues and develop engineering solutions during fabrication and construction Collaborate with naval architects and other engineering disciplines to ensure structural designs integrate with vessel and platform systems Support classification society reviews and regulatory approval processes Participate in design reviews and communicate technical decisions to engineering and project leadership Help establish engineering standards, processes, and documentation as the company scales
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline 5+ years of professional structural engineering experience, preferably within maritime, naval, offshore, or shipbuilding environments Direct experience with ABS rules and classification requirements Experience working with U.S. Navy vessels, programs, standards, or engineering requirements Experience working with shipyards, marine fabrication, or vessel construction Strong understanding of marine structural design, load paths, welding, fabrication, and constructability Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and structural calculations Ability to work effectively with shipyard personnel, engineers, fabricators, and project teams Strong technical communication and problem-solvingskills Ability to take ownership of engineering problems and drive them through resolution
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional Engineer (PE) license Experience with ABS plan review or approval processes Experience with USCG requirements and marine regulatory compliance Experience supporting Navy new construction, modernization, or ship repair programs Experience with offshore platforms, barges, floating structures, or heavy marinem structures Experience with finite element analysis (FEA)Proficiency with structural analysis and CAD software Experience taking designs from engineering through fabrication, installation, and commissioning Experience working directly with shipyards and marine fabricators Familiarity with marine structural standards such as AISC, AWS, API, ASME, or applicable Navy standards What You'll Get Direct ownership over engineering on a first-of-kind maritime platform The opportunity to work at the intersection of maritime engineering, defense, and commercial space Significant influence over engineering decisions as the company scales Close collaboration with experienced engineering and project leadershipA hands-on environment where designs move from engineering drawings to real-world hardware Opportunity to work on complex structures with meaningful operational requirements Competitive compensation and equity participation This is a strong fit for an engineer who has spent time in the real maritime engineering world - particularly someone who understands ABS, Navy requirements, and what it takes to actually get a structure built in a shipyard.
