Job Description: POSITION SUMMARYThe Finisher (Automotive Paint & Clear Coat Specialist) is responsible for the preparation, painting, and finishing of custom sign products using automotive-grade paints, primers, and clear coats. This position operates within a spray booth environment and plays a critical role in producing high-quality finished signage that meets Outdoor Dimensions' standards for appearance, durability, and color accuracy. The Finisher will work closely with fabrication, production, and project teams to ensure all sign components are properly prepared, painted, and protected prior to installation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Prepare sign panels, posts, monuments, cabinets, dimensional letters, and other sign components for finishing. Sand, clean, mask, and prime surfaces prior to painting. Mix and apply automotive paints, primers, and clear coats according to manufacturer specifications. Operate spray booth equipment safely and efficiently. Perform color matching and maintain consistency across projects. Apply specialty finishes, textures, and protective coatings as required. Inspect painted components for quality, finish consistency, and defects. Touch up painted surfaces as necessary to meet production standards. Maintain detailed records of paint formulas, colors, job numbers, and application dates. Monitor inventory levels of paints, clear coats, reducers, hardeners, masking materials, and related supplies. Notify supervisor when inventory requires replenishment. Properly clean and maintain spray guns, paint equipment, spray booth, and work areas. Follow all OSHA, environmental, and company safety standards regarding paint handling and hazardous materials. Assist with assembly and preparation of completed signs when needed. Attend company and department meetings. Demonstrate commitment to company core values, policies, and safety procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum 2 years of experience in automotive painting, industrial finishing, cabinet finishing, sign finishing, or related field preferred. Experience using HVLP spray guns and automotive paint systems preferred. Experience working in a production or manufacturing environment is a plus. Knowledge of automotive paint systems, primers, clear coats, and surface preparation techniques. Ability to accurately mix paints and color match finishes. Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship. Ability to read work orders, production documents, and color specifications. Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong organizational and time management skills. Commitment to workplace safety and cleanliness. Knowledge of sign installation, construction, field service, or manufacturing operations preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and interpret work orders, paint specifications, product labels, safety data sheets, manufacturer instructions, and company procedures. Ability to maintain accurate paint records and communicate clearly with supervisors and production team members..MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to perform basic arithmetic and work with measurements, quantities, ratios, percentages, and mixing formulas required to prepare and apply paints, primers, reducers, hardeners, and clear coats accurately. REASONING ABILITYAbility to follow detailed finishing instructions, identify surface or coating defects, determine appropriate corrective action, and adjust preparation or application methods as needed. Ability to prioritize work, use sound judgment, and promptly report quality or safety concerns. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONSForklift certification is a plus. Respirator certification and fit testing may be required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, reach, and use hands and arms. Frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lift and move more than 50 pounds with assistance. Must possess sufficient manual dexterity to operate spray equipment and finishing tools. Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to distinguish paint colors accurately. WORK ENVIRONMENTWork is performed primarily in a manufacturing and spray booth environment. Regular exposure to paints, solvents, fumes, dust, and airborne particles. Required use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection. Noise level is typically moderate to loud. Must comply with all safety, environmental, and hazardous material handling procedures. This position requires regular on-site attendance during scheduled work hours.
