Position Description:
The Director of Faculty Development works in the Office of Continuous Professional Development and Strategic Affairs ( CPDSA ) under the oversight of and in collaboration with the Associate Dean for CPDSA to enable faculty in the USC Floyd School of Medicine ( FSOM ) to become more effective teachers and scholars and to support their efforts toward program development, educational innovations, and effective management of the educational and clinical learning environments. This is a Professional track Faculty position. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS ROLE WILL ENTAILDesigns, implements, delivers, and evaluates faculty development activities across the FSOM, with a substantial focus on developing clinical teaching faculty. Collaborates effectively with the Associate Dean for CPDSA, other leaders of the FSOM, and the Continuing Medical Education ( CME ) team of the OCPDSA to develop and implement formal and informal activities and programs that address faculty teaching, well-being, mentorship, and educational program leadership and ensure their alignment with the strategic direction of the system. Conducts ongoing assessment of faculty needs to identify strategic priorities and practice gaps for faculty development. Utilizes the latest advances in learning sciences to model and equip faculty with evidence-based best practices in learning and professional development. Partners with the FSOM Associate Dean for GME /Prisma Health Midlands Regional GME Executive and DIO and other GME leaders from Prisma Health and other clinical partners to support GME faculty development and ensure activities align with GME strategy and fulfill ACGME requirements, where necessary. Serves as a liaison to relevant groups and initiatives at the AAMC, ABMS, ACGME, and/or LCME and facilitates the implementation of current and next best practices and maintenance of accreditation in areas related to faculty and faculty development. Establish and monitors communities of practice related to the medical educational and scholarly mission of the FSOM, as appropriate. Supports the strategic planning and strategic affairs efforts of the OCPDSA in the SOMC as it relates to faculty development. Facilitates faculty engagement in the ABMS Maintenance of Certification/Continuing Certification Portfolio Program, as appropriate. Partners with the Associate Dean for CPDSA and other members of the OCPDSA to promote and effectively support the office’s mission to address the professional development needs of physicians across the broad and diverse range of their responsibilities as faculty, clinicians, scholars, and leaders. Effectively executes other duties and activities as assigned. Required Education and Experience PhD, MD, DO, MD/PhD, EdD or equivalent.7 years of experience as a full-time faculty member in an accredited medical school or 7 years of experience in the design, delivery, and evaluation of higher education needed to develop faculty as effective teachers and leaders in academic medicine, or equivalent. Evidence of exemplary teaching in medical education and/or record of accomplishment in faculty development in academic administration and/or building novel programmatic initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the area of faculty development and strategic planning for faculty success.
Experience in the development and delivery of faculty development related to clinical teaching, including educational coaching, regarding the application of evidence-based educational practices.
A record of achievement in teaching and/or administration in academic medicine.
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
