Entry-Level Mechanical / Mechatronics Engineer: Biomedical Devices & Robotics
Location: Remote within the United States during Phase ISchedule: Full-time or part-time
Compensation: $35–$45/hour, depending on qualifications and relevant project experience
About the Role: Guanaco Labs LLC is seeking an entry-level Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineer to support the design and development of biomedical technology for emergency and resource-limited environments. Working with the engineering lead and a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to mechanical design, component selection, preliminary analysis, and engineering documentation. The role offers experience with systems that combine mechanisms, fluid handling, sensors, and electromechanical components. The initial work focuses on conceptual design and feasibility. Assignments will have defined objectives, technical guidance, and regular design reviews, with opportunities to take on additional responsibility as your skills develop.
Responsibilities: Create and update 3D CAD models, mechanical parts, and assemblies. Support component layouts, mounting concepts, and mechanical packaging. Research pumps, valves, tubing, actuators, sensors, and other components. Compare component specifications, dimensions, costs, and availability. Create and maintain bills of materials and supplier information. Perform basic engineering calculations and document assumptions and results. Prepare drawings, design notes, and presentations for technical reviews. Support manufacturing research and planning for future prototype assembly and testing. Communicate progress, identify technical questions, and incorporate design feedback.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree completed or in progress in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Biomedical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field; equivalent demonstrated technical experience will also be considered. Familiarity with Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or a comparable CAD platform. Foundational knowledge of mechanics, materials, dimensions, tolerances, and assembly considerations. Relevant experience through coursework, senior design, internships, research, robotics competitions, or personal projects. Ability to read technical information, compare alternatives, and explain engineering decisions. Strong organization, attention to detail, and written communication. Ability to make progress on assigned tasks and ask for guidance when needed. No prior full-time engineering employment is required.
Preferred Experience: Mechanical assemblies, robotics, or actuator-driven mechanisms. Pumps, tubing, valves, or other fluid-handling components.3D printing, machining, or prototype assembly. Sensors, microcontrollers, basic electronics, or electrical schematics. Technical drawings, bills of materials, or introductory engineering simulation.
