Sentor is designed to move intelligence closer to the physical motion layer. Instead of treating actuation as a passive output from a central controller, we are building hardware and software that can sense local conditions, adapt to changing loads, and respond in real time. We recently closed our seed round and are building the founding technical team.
The Role:
You will own the quality of prototype assemblies, fixtures and mechanical test setups. You should be able to plan a build, spot a fit or alignment problem, investigate it and generate clear documentation a new person can follow. We value careful workmanship, practical judgment and evidence that you can drive quality improvement on process and output.
Core Responsibilities:
Learn and ideate. Embody curiosity to continuously learn and understand the technologies you will be working with. Conceptualize tests, processes, fixtures, and other ideas that will help advance the technology and improve quality. Build precision mechanisms. Assemble and adjust actuators, motor components, housings and test hardware. Verify alignment, clearances, bearing fits, preload and fastening against agreed acceptance criteria. Make and modify parts. Fabricate brackets, spacers, adapters and fixtures using machining, bench fabrication or methods, as appropriate. Measure what matters. Inspect dimensions, runout, flatness and alignment. Select instruments suited to the tolerance, check their condition and calibration status, and record results against the correct drawing revision. Build repeatable test setups. Make test/programming fixtures and help install sensors, couplings and loads so measurements reflect the mechanism rather than movement in the fixture. Find and fix mechanical problems. Diagnose binding, friction, backlash, vibration, wear and looseness through inspection and controlled tests. Verify that the correction works. Improve the build process. Flag tolerance conflicts and assembly difficulties early. Work with engineers on approved changes to parts, fixtures and assembly sequences. Generate clear, high quality documentation. Track specifications, revisions, measurements, rework and test results. Create practical documentation with photos where useful. Example Project Build a test jig for a printed circuit board (PCB) from DXF and 3D CAD files. Interpret the files, identify issues, make recommendations, agree on test points, connections, and test methodologies with engineering and make an assembly aid. Assemble and run tests, iterate, set up a repeatable load test, troubleshoot issues, and document the final configuration and procedure for the next build.
Required Experience:
Proven precision work. A record of independently building and troubleshooting mechanisms where fit, alignment and repeatability matter. Drawing literacy. Read mechanical and electrical drawings, assembly models, tolerances, fits and practical geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Recognize missing or conflicting information before proceeding. Basic fabrication skills. Demonstrated machining or precision fabrication ability, including safe setup, workholding, drilling, tapping, deburring and inspection. Explain the limits of the methods you use. Careful workmanship. Experience with bearings, shafts, fasteners, shims and comparable components; controlled tightening, surface preparation, bonding and protection of critical surfaces. Independent troubleshooting. Show how you isolated a mechanical fault, tested possible causes and confirmed the repair with measurements. What Sets Strong Candidates Apart Relevant mechanisms. Experience with motors, actuators, robotics, precision instruments, flexures or other demanding motion systems. Broader fabrication capability. Manual mill and lathe proficiency, CNC setup or CAM, and 3D CAD for practical fixtures and assembly aids. Better testing and repeatability. Experience with force or torque measurements, endurance testing or vibration diagnosis; examples of reducing build variation or rework. Effective electromechanical collaboration. Comfortable handling sensors, connectors and wiring around mechanical assemblies and working closely with electrical and controls engineers. Workplace Expectations Take responsibility for quality, communicate blockers early and follow work through to a verified result. Keep tools, parts, consumables and build records organized. Work safely around machinery, rotating parts, magnets and stored energy. Stop and resolve unclear requirements or unsafe conditions, and share improvements that help the whole team build more reliably. Show us your work. Be prepared to discuss a mechanism you built, a difficult problem you solved and how you verified the result. Bring nonconfidential examples and explain your personal contribution. Demonstrated craftsmanship and judgment carry more weight than a particular degree or job title.
