Diagnoses and returns to service touring audio electronics, including mixing consoles, rack mount processing and networking equipment, and power amplifiers. The role centers on systematic fault isolation and module level repair, running manufacturer diagnostics, using service documentation to identify failed assemblies, replacing modules, and managing warranty and RMA claims through manufacturer service portals. Component level board repair is occasional and is not a primary funciton of this position.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the essential functions of this job while exercising independent judgment and discretion.
REQUIRED
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot methodically: verify the reported fault, isolate it by substitution and signal tracing, and confirm the fix
Ability to read block diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, exploded views, and parts lists to identify assemblies and replacement part numbers
Strong mechanical aptitude; able to disassemble and correclty reassemble complex equipment with or without service documentation
Proficient use of a digital multimeter and standard hand tools
Computer proficiency: Windows, manufacturer service and diagnostic software, vendor web portals, email and inventory or ticketing systems
Basic networking skills sufficient to connect a laptop to a device for diagnostics and firmware updates (IP addressing, cabling, switches)
Clear, accurate written documentation of faults, work performed, and parts used
Basic soldering skills for connectors, wiring, and through-hole components
Safe work practices with mains powered equipment, stored energy in amplifier power supplies, and ESD sensitive assemblies
Associate degree or certificate in Electronics Technology, military electronics training, or equivalent hands-on experience in professional audio, AV, or electronics service
PREFERRED
Familitarity with audio signal flow (analog and digital), audio formats, and common professional audio connectors (XLR, TRS, speakON, etherCON, fiber)
2+ years servicing professional audio, broadcast, or AV equipment
Experience with digital mixing consoles and networked audio protocols (Dante, AVB/Milan, MADI)
Experience with oscilloscopes, signal generators, and audio analyzers
Manufacturer service training or certification on console or amplifier platforms
Surface mount rework experience
Experience processing warranty claims, RMAs, or parts orders with equipment manufacturers
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Evaluate incoming equpiment: confirm the reported fault, perform functional and audio tests, and document findings
Run manufacturer diagnostic software, self-tests, and error log readouts on consoles, amplifiers, and rack electronics to isolate faults
Identify the failed module or assembly (power supplies, I/O and DSP cards, control surface sections, network modules, fan assemblies) using service documentation, or by inspection and subsittution when documentation is unavailable
Use schematics, service manuals, and part lists to determine correct replacement modules and part numbers
Disassemble and reassemble equipment, tracking hardware, cabling, and connector orientation so units are returned to factory condition
Replace modules and subassemblies; perform firmware updates; configuration resets, and calibration routines as specified by the manufacturer
Create and manage service tickets, warranty claims, RMAs, and parts orders through manufacturer service portals, and track them through to completion
Communicate with manufacturer technical support to resolve faults and elevate when needed
Perform minor repairs such as connectors, cables, fans, switches, encoders and faders
Perform post-repair verification and burn-in testing before returning equipment to rental stock
Record diagnosis, parts used, labor, and outcome for each repair in the company inventory and repair tracking system
Clean equipment and perform preventative maintenance (fans, filters, faders, connectors) as part of each repair
Maintain organized spare parts and module stock, and report recurring failures to the shop lead
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Able to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs, assist with team lifts of consoles and amplifiers
Stand and work at a bench for extended periods
Fine motor control and close visual work for small hardware, connectors, and soldering
