As the Senior HR Generalist, this key role will be responsible for weekly payroll processing, managing workers compensation, overseeing benefits administration, ensuring compliance with OSHA, managing FMLA, and providing valuable contribution to our recruiting process.
Job Responsibilities
TOTAL REWARDS: ADMINISTRATION:Administers all Employee Benefit Programs, including Health, Dental, Life, Disability, 401K and Profit Sharing Plans. In concert with the VP of HR & Employee Relations Manager, annually evaluates the cost of Employee Benefits, including health care cost containment, utilization review, and insurance claim costs, and monitors the effectiveness of Health and Wellness programs on these costs and works with vendors on the renewal/bid process. Leads the comprehensive communication strategy for benefit programs to improve employee engagement and ensure understanding of annual open enrollment process and offerings. Manages the company’s open enrollment process. This includes working with Derse’s HRIS, ensuring the open enrollment site is built and tested for open enrollment, communicating to employees, and sharing results with management. Create and distribute total rewards statements (benefit statements) to emphasize the value to all employees of their benefit packages. Maintains current knowledge of and complies with provisions of COBRA, FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, ACA, ERISA and other applicable laws as necessary. Files appropriate reports with State and Federal agencies. Administers Wellness Program ensuring timely notification to all employees of the yearly Goals and Objectives. Reviews and communicates participation levels and how they affect the Health insurance premium sharing percentage. Accurately manages the costs of the Employee Benefit Programs and processes/approves health, dental, and vision invoices for payment. Accurately manages the costs for all Union-related fringes for payment. Administers COBRA, FMLA and ADA programs. ON-BOARDING:Directly responsible for planning and conducting new hire orientations for assigned divisions / departments. Managing the new hire process in Derse’s human resources information system (HRIS) to ensure proper collection and maintenance of employee records. PAYROLL:Responsible for managing payroll process for salaried personnel on a bi-weekly basis. Responsible for managing Germany payroll. This includes the following: Generating a variety of payroll reports (401K, Insurance, New Hire / Term)Conducting general payroll maintenance, which includes setting up new pay codes, tax codes, PTO codes etc.)Completing quarterly audits (pay rates, insurance premium rates etc.)Enter / set-up payroll-related information for employees into the HRIS (pay rate changes, new deductions, garnishments etc.)Update and maintain HR Report for FMLA / Work Comp cases Respond timely to all employee & non-employee inquiries regarding payroll and related information Work with Derse’s HRIS vendor in ensuring any tax-related inquiries are responded to timely on our behalf Prepare and provide necessary payroll-related reports and information to accounting. Perform necessary audits to ensure payroll matches the budgetGENERAL HR:Maintains knowledge of governmental regulations, reporting requirements and legal requirements affecting company policies and human resource practices to include Wage and Hour and FLSA regulations to ensure policies, procedures and reporting are in compliance. Maintain specific state required postings for new hires to review & acknowledge during on-boarding. Ensure postings requiring an annual acknowledgement are handled appropriately and maintained in the HRIS and/or employees’ personnel file. Assists in carrying out the Administration of Derse’s 401K and Profit-Sharing plans including audits and annual notices. This includes: Preparing and distributing weekly 401K Auto-Enrollment files Handling all auto-escalations for January 1st and applicable unions at time of contract Assists with employee communication and feedback through such avenues as company meetings, suggestion programs, employee satisfaction surveys, newsletters, employee focus groups, one-on-one meetings, and HRIS use. Handle all union pay rate & fringe updates in Derse’s HRIS and applicable monthly invoices timely and accurately Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs. Completes all MRA and industry-related surveys (benefits, turnover, salary etc.)Complete any federal, state or local annual reports (EEO1, CA Data Reporting etc.)Manage all work-related injuries and appropriate reporting. Work with injured employee & supervisor to prepare, collect & report injuries to insurance carrier Serve as main point of contact for employees during any time off or medical treatment related to injury Respond to and provide necessary information to insurance carriers Work with Employee Relations Manager in investigating injury and determining opportunities to improve policies, training or employee communication Maintain OSHA 300s and 300 As and post by annual deadline Submit annual report to OSHAServe as a member of the Milwaukee/Corporate Social Events Committee Lead all company charitable / fundraising activities (including United Way)Assist VP, HR & Employee Relations Manager with a variety of special projects & HR initiatives. Key collaboration with: VP of HR & Employee Relations Manager to meet the goals of Total Rewards Program and other HR priorities All employees in communicating Total Rewards ProgramHR Personnel in helping to create a Department-wide effort.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required. Comprehensive knowledge of HR functions including payroll, workers compensation, benefits administration, and compliance with regulations such as OSHA and FMLA.Previous experience in a similar role in an HR department. Strong recruiting skills to identify, attract, and hire high-quality candidates. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Exceptional organizational abilities and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization.
