This role will support a strong pipeline of street paving and underground utility projects across Los Angeles County, including city streets, parking lots, and occasional airport and railway work. This is a key hire due to an upcoming retirement, offering long-term stability and the opportunity to step into a high-impact role within a growing operation managing approximately $100M in annual work.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for underground utility and paving projects
- Review plans, specifications, and project scope to identify risks and opportunities
- Develop detailed takeoffs for sewer, underground utilities, asphalt, and concrete work
- Analyze labor, equipment, and material costs to ensure competitive and profitable bids
- Evaluate project feasibility and alignment with company capabilities
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop bid strategies and pricing approaches
- Support value engineering efforts to optimize cost efficiency
- Work closely with operations, project managers, and field teams
- Communicate with subcontractors and vendors to obtain pricing and scope clarification
- Assist in bid reviews and presentations as needed
- Maintain organized documentation of estimates and bid history
- Continuously improve estimating accuracy and efficiency
- Ensure all work aligns with company standards and project requirements
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Proven experience as an Estimator in Heavy Civil Construction
- Strong background in underground utilities (sewer, wet utilities, etc.)Experience with asphalt and concrete paving projects
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and team collaboration abilities
- Must be a strong cultural fit and team-oriented
