Research Associate The Research Associate is a specialized scientific staff member within the Proteomics Core Facility who independently manages assigned research projects from design/project intake through project closeout while supporting mass spectrometry-based proteomics and small molecule/metabolite analyses for a diverse research community. The Research Associate independently performs and coordinates sample preparation, LC-MS/MS acquisition, quality control, evaluates data, manages project status and intake documentation in iLabs, conducts client consultations including project closeouts/follow-up meetings, and provides technical oversight and training to undergraduate researchers. This cross-disciplinary role is essential to maintaining and expanding the Core's analytical services which requires advanced knowledge of protein biochemistry, analytical chemistry, chromatography, high resolution mass spectrometry, data interpretation, and research project management. This is a fixed term position with a current end date of one year from the date of hire, which may be extended based upon available funding.
Job Qualifications
Education and Experience: (Grade 9):Required: Master's degree in biology, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, proteomics, metabolomics, or a closely related field plus 2-5 years' related experience. Demonstrated hands-on experience with mass spectrometry and LC/MS workflows, including sample preparation, method execution and optimization, LC-MS data acquisition and analysis, instrument operation and troubleshooting, and interpretation of experimental results. Experience providing technical support or guidance to research projects and communicating analytical results to scientific collaborators is also required. Knowledge of laboratory approaches and techniques in the areas of Proteins, Chemistry, and Biochemistry required. And/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with small molecule or metabolite LC/MS analysis is strongly desired. Candidate must understand the distinct sample preparation, chromatographic, and acquisition requirements of peptide/protein vs metabolite workflows. Strong computer skills with experience using software for the analysis of protein mass spectrometry data is strongly advantageous, specifically Spectromine, Spectronaut, Proteome Discoverer. Experience working with proteins (i.e. Western Blots, BCAs, Purification, performing proteomic sample prep (e.g. Protifi S-Trap, In-solution digestion, Barocycler assisted-digestion, on-bead digestion, PreOmics etc.) is desirable.
