WWTP Operator I or II

The City of Jefferson is now accepting applications for a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I or II for the Wastewater Division. This position operates and maintains wastewater treatment equipment and facilities and participates in the biosolids land application program. For individuals hired as an Operator I, this position leads to an automatic advancement into an Operator II after all experience qualifications listed below are met. Operator I Operates, maintains and cleans the plant and associated equipment. Operates UV disinfection, sludge dewatering, and land application equipment. Assists maintenance staff with pump stations, including on-call rotation after comprehensively trained. Operates heavy equipment as needed. Maintains treatment plant grounds, including cutting grass, emptying dumpsters and cleaning buildings. Operator II In addition to Operator I responsibilities, this position evaluates water quality, process control tests, collects samples, leads small plant improvement projects, processes paperwork, maintains inventory, and fills in for Supervisor when needed. Education/Experience Qualifications Operator I High school diploma or equivalent Missouri Class D Wastewater Treatment Operator’s License within 12 months of hire Missouri Class B CDL with required endorsement withing 6 months of hire. Operator II Meets all Operator I requirements Two years of qualifying wastewater treatment experience. Missouri Class C Wastewater Treatment Operators License Missouri Class B CDL with required endorsements Abilities Physical: Ability to lift fire hoses and other equipment weighing up to 100 pounds; work with hazardous chemicals; and withstand extreme weather conditions. Mental: Ability to concentrate while operating dangerous equipment; perform process control of the plant; assist and understand lab analysis; read and understand 0 & M manual; and perform basic troubleshooting. On the job training will be provided for wastewater license and CDL. Specific job title and salary depend on qualifications. The current annual salary range for each position is listed below: Operator I: $42,881 - $64,321 Operator II: $47,276.02 - $70,914 Position is posted until filled.
