About the Role: ASARCO is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Manager – Copper Mine & Tailings Expansion to provide overarching leadership and governance across all construction work fronts for this portfolio. Reporting directly to the Project Director as a key member of the Owner’s team, you will champion a safety-first culture and ensure the efficient, high-quality execution of construction activities in strict alignment with approved scope, schedule, budget, and regulatory requirements. In this highly collaborative role, you will work hand-in-hand with the Engineering Manager, Project Controls, EP/CM contractors, Operations, Maintenance, Procurement, and Commissioning teams to guarantee seamless integration from design through operational readiness.
Responsibilities: Lead, mentor, and inspire a dedicated team of construction coordinators and supervisors through influence and accountability, fostering industry-leading project management practices. Direct and review construction activities to ensure outstanding work quality, rigorous adherence to codes, standards, and best practices, and seamless alignment with company and international standards across all work fronts. Conduct thorough constructability reviews of engineering designs to optimize project duration, enhance field productivity, and prioritize safety during construction. Partner closely with EP/CM teams, site operations, maintenance, technical groups, third-party consultants, and external service providers. Coordinate closely with the Engineering Manager to align execution plans. Ensure strong operational engagement in project execution with a strong emphasis on change management, performance assurance, and the implementation of new designs, best practices, and documentation. Develop and implement dynamic strategies to expedite, monitor, and accurately track field progress and deliverables, ensuring adherence to packaging best practices and budget parameters. Drive safety awareness by contributing to construction risk assessments, HAZOPs, design reviews, and value optimizations. Ensure corporate \"Design for Safety\" principles are rigorously applied. Ensure total compliance with company policies, environmental guidelines, and industry regulations, while delivering compelling status updates to project sponsors and key business partners.
What You Bring
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering or a related technical discipline, paired with a minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in construction management within heavy industrial or mining capital projects; OR a high school diploma with a minimum of 20 years of progressive experience in large-scale industrial construction management.
Core Competencies: Demonstrated expertise in managing complex, multi-discipline construction activities in industrial settings. Deep knowledge of construction sequencing, field execution strategies, and contractor governance models. Proven track record of overseeing construction supervisors and contractors within heavy industrial environments. Exceptional leadership ability complemented by strong interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Comprehensive understanding of safety systems, OSHA requirements, and regulatory compliance in heavy construction. High adaptability with the capacity to navigate and prioritize competing demands in a dynamic project setting. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with standard project tools. Results-driven mindset characterized by outstanding organizational and execution capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications: Direct experience in metal mining operations, including working familiarity with hydrometallurgy and concentrating processes. Hands-on experience working within EPC / EPCM delivery frameworks. Demonstrated success in supporting mechanical completion, commissioning, and handover to operations. Proven ability to evaluate, introduce, and implement innovative construction methods, value engineering, and execution strategies.
