Job Description: Job Description Ann & Nate Levine Academy is seeking a passionate, dynamic School Librarian to cultivate a vibrant, school-wide culture of reaching and lifelong learning. The ideal candidate is a champion for student literacy who inspires a love of reading across all grade levels, curates an inclusive and representative collection, and leverages accessible learning technologies. In this role, you will elevate reading engagement through creative programming, partner with classroom teachers to integrate rich literacy resources, and empower students with strong research and critical thinking skills.
Responsibilities: Literacy & Reading Engagement: Design and implement innovative, school-wide reading initiatives, including dynamic story times, author visits, book fairs, literacy days/nights, and student-led book clubs or podcasting projects. Collective Development & Inclusive Curation: Curate, organize, and maintain a diverse, high-quality collection of print, digital, and audio materials that reflect diverse backgrounds, interests, and reading levels. Environment & Culture: Actively recommend books, guide independent reading choices, and foster a joyful, welcoming library environment where every student develops a strong reader identity. In-Classroom Collaboration: Partner directly with classroom teachers to co-plan units, align library resources with grade-level curricula, and co-teach literacy-rich lessons across subject areas. Instruction & Research Literacy: Teach engaging, age-appropriate library research strategies, digital citizenship, and information literacy across grade levels. Standards, Policies, & Management: Manage library operations, cataloging, circulation, inventory, and budget allocation in alignment with school policies and professional standards.
Skills & Qualifications
Education: Master's in Library Science
Experience: Previous experience working in a school library, media center, or educational literacy setting is preferred. Collaboration & Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven track record of co-teaching and collaborating with teachers, administrators, and parents. Culture & Belonging: Deep knowledge of children's and young adult literature, reading instruction strategies, and techniques for motivating reluctant readers.
