Supporting high-visibility ESA Section 7 consultation activities, the fully remote Lead ESA Section 7 Consultation Scientist will conduct scientific literature reviews, provide technical leadership and oversight to junior staff, and ensure the development of legally and biologically defensible consultation documents during east coast business hours.
Key responsibilities: Independently evaluate complex biological and regulatory issues for ESA Section 7 consultations Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior ESA Consultation Scientists, coordinating consultation activities and resolving complex issues Conduct QA/QC reviews of consultation documents to ensure biological accuracy and legal sufficiency
Required qualifications: Master's degree or higher in Marine Science, Marine Biology, Biology, Oceanography, Marine Policy, or a related discipline Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience with ESA Section 7 consultation requirements Demonstrated ability to perform complex ESA Section 7 consultation work independently Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring to less-senior scientific staff Strong technical writing skills and knowledge of Southeast US species-related habitats
