We are seeking a hands-on Quality Engineer to lead quality assurance and support day-to-day quality operations in a high-mix precision machining environment. This role works closely with production, engineering, and management and offers opportunities for increased responsibility and professional growth over time.
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the Quality Engineer supports quality operations related to inspection, first-piece inspection, calibration systems, nonconforming material processes, customer returns, supplier quality coordination, and quality system documentation. This role requires a practical manufacturing mindset, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced machining environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
Manage nonconforming material processes including containment, identification, documentation, and rework job creation.
Support customer return (RMA) activities including ERP transactions, documentation, and coordination of returned material.
Support supplier quality activities including supplier returns and outside process issue coordination.
Maintain calibration systems, including gage tracking, calibration records, coordination of outside calibration services, and internal calibration activities.
Maintain quality records and documentation in accordance with company procedures and ISO requirements.
Develop and maintain control plans, inspection plans, and related quality documentation in collaboration with engineering and operations.
Operate CMM equipment as needed. CMM programming experience is preferred but not required. Training opportunities may be available for the right candidate.
Correctly process work through required procedures and ERP systems.
Perform incoming and first piece inspections as needed in accordance with engineering drawings, control plans, customer requirements, and internal procedures.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Communicate quality concerns and status updates clearly with production personnel, engineering, suppliers, and management.
Skills and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
Experience using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, thread gages, and height gages.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage changing priorities.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel preferred.
CMM operation or programming experience preferred.
ISO and internal audit experience preferred.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and measuring equipment, and communicate with others throughout the facility. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
This position operates primarily within a manufacturing environment and may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical equipment and moderate noise levels.
