Position Summary: The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and improving manufacturing processes to ensure the production of high-quality products in the safest, most efficient, and cost-effective manner. This role designs and documents manufacturing processes, including work instructions, quality plans, and standard operating procedures, while applying Lean manufacturing principles to improve quality, reduce waste, and increase efficiency. The Manufacturing Engineer collaborates cross-functionally to support production and drive continuous improvement across the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and implement assembly processes, tooling, fixtures, and production methods that improve safety, quality, efficiency, and productivity while reducing downtime, waste, and rework. Lead lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to optimize processes, reduce costs, improve workflow, and support on-time delivery through standardized work, visual management, and performance metrics. Collaborate with Product Engineering, Operations, Quality, Maintenance, Purchasing, and suppliers to ensure manufacturability, resolve production issues, support new product introductions, evaluate supplier capabilities, and implement effective process improvements. Develop, maintain, and revise manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, SOPs, quality plans, PFMEAs, control plans, corrective actions, engineering change documentation, and other technical records. Lead root cause analysis, troubleshoot manufacturing and quality issues, and implement corrective and preventive actions to improve process reliability and customer satisfaction. Identify, recommend, and support capital equipment, tooling, automation, and facility improvement projects while ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable safety and regulatory requirements, including MIOSHA.Support prototype builds, process validation, and production activities as needed, including creating or modifying 2D/3D CAD drawings and operating material handling equipment when needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software required; experience with SolidWorks preferred. Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel. Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Self-motivated, results-oriented, and able to work independently while contributing effectively in a collaborative team environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization and with external suppliers. Ability to obtain forklift certification and safely operate material handling equipment as required. Valid Michigan driver's license.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum three (3) years manufacturing engineering experience in a production environment required. Hands-on experience developing, implementing, and improving assembly processes, including the use of production equipment, tooling, and fixtures required.
Physical Demands: Regularly communicates and exchanges accurate information with coworkers, customers, and other stakeholders. Frequently remains in a stationary position, moves throughout the facility, and transitions between office and manufacturing environments as required. Regularly uses hands and arms to operate equipment, handle materials, perform inspections, and complete tasks requiring manual dexterity, grip strength, and attention to detail. Occasionally ascends, descends, and positions themselves around machinery, equipment, fixtures, and workstations to perform job duties safely. Frequently lifts, carries, pushes, and/or moves materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 60 pounds. Requires visual acuity to inspect parts and equipment, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: Position will function in both office and factory environments. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud. The work environment is occasionally dusty.
