Microbiology Lab Assistant

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Equipment and Instrument: Records daily, weekly maintenance of all instruments BD Kiestra Inocul A automation, BD Bactec FX blood culture, Cepheid, Verigene Performs date back up in required laboratory instrument(s) Replenishes print out paper and ribbon in printer device in the laboratory Materials and Supplies: Maintains inventory of all media, reagents and supplies for the department. Prepares weekly mediaorder for vendors Rotation of media for expiration dates Administrative and other: Orients and trains new or less experience personnel Answers telephone and takes messages Reviews pending report tolook for missing specimens and test results. Troubleshoot for test(s) not entered in our data system. Requires receiving and processing samples. SKILLS|EXPERIENCE: o High School Graduate or equivalent and minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience. o Must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment, effectively interacting with other personnel. o Strong interpersonal skills sufficient to work closely with others on a team. o Must possess speed, consistency and accuracy in meeting the laboratory standard of performance. o Ability to demonstrate flexibility in work environment, performing a variety of changing tasks. o Be able to concentrate and committed to the task assigned. o Display a high level of cognitive, interpretive or judgment skills in troubleshooting instruments. o Have documentation of training appropriate to ensure that the individual has all the following skills and abilities: Proper specimen collection appropriate to the test ordered: i.e. specimen requirements for lab test(s) The skills required for performing basic preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of lab instruments. A working knowledge of reagent stability and storage Awareness of the factors that influence test results Skills required to assist the CLS in the operation of fully automated instruments.
