Award-winning Edge AI Maritime startup in Washington, DC (full-remote option) is growing the team and in need of a Maritime Data Analyst. This person will leverage their expertise in vessel recognition, maritime intelligence, and imagery analysis to classify vessel imagery, adjudicate disagreements, and improve the accuracy of maritime data used to train and evaluate AI systems. This is a specialized role for someone with professional experience identifying vessels by sight and a strong understanding of naval and commercial vessel types. The ideal candidate will have a background in maritime intelligence, imagery analysis, GEOINT, maritime operations, or a related field and will be comfortable challenging existing classifications and providing clear, well-reasoned recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional experience identifying and classifying vessels by sight
  • Experience with maritime intelligence, imagery analysis, GEOINT, maritime domain awareness, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of naval and commercial vessel types and classes
  • Ability to identify and distinguish military vessel types, including vessels from navies outside of the United States
  • Experience analyzing satellite, aerial, or other forms of vessel imagery
  • Ability to independently review imagery and make accurate classification decisions
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify ambiguous or difficult-to-classify vessels
  • Ability to clearly document classification decisions and explain the reasoning behind them
  • Willingness to challenge existing classifications, category definitions, and assumptions when the imagery does not support them
  • Strong written communication and analytical skills
  • Strong Plus:
  • Previous experience with naval intelligence, Coast Guard intelligence, or military imagery analysis
  • Professional maritime experience, including deck watch or vessel operations
  • Experience with ship recognition training or instruction
  • Experience working with GEOINT, OSINT, remote sensing, satellite imagery, or geospatial data
  • Experience with maritime domain awareness or vessel tracking
  • Experience identifying foreign naval vessels and classes
  • Experience with ArcGIS or other geospatial analysis tools
  • Experience working with imagery datasets, annotation, quality control, or data adjudication
  • Experience working with AI/ML teams or technology companies
