Respiratory Therapist Under the indirect consultation of the respiratory department's medical director and the direct supervision of the Respiratory Manager, Respiratory Therapists assess, diagnose, and treat patients with lung or breathing conditions. Respiratory Therapists are to follow the guidelines which are provided under the Respiratory's Scope of Care (Policy NMRRTP0078).
Job responsibilities include: Contributing to a positive work climate and team effort, expressing a positive attitude and cooperation. Demonstrating clinical competence and expertise to include but not limited to oxygen therapy, humidity and aerosol therapy, respiratory pharmacology, chest physio-therapy, PFTs, ABG's, EEG's, EKG's, Stress Testing, Holter Monitors, ventilator care, intubation, and all other duties assigned per department manager. Performing CPR and being certified in Basic Life Support by an authorized organization. ACLS.Ensuring all therapy is administered in accordance with the prescription of a physician. Administering medications in accordance with policy and procedure. Performing oxygen and equipment rounds per policy and procedure. Collecting and interpreting arterial blood gases and demonstrating ability to maintain quality control of arterial blood gas analysis. Participating in Continuous Quality Improvement. Troubleshooting basic equipment problems. Understanding and performing safe Respiratory Practices. Being responsible for documenting procedures and departmental records and files correctly and quickly, for statistical and charging purposes per department policies and procedures. Participating in hospital and departmental in-service education classes and attending mandatory meetings. Communicating all clinical problems or patients requiring further evaluation to his/her clinical supervisor. Participating in special projects as directed by the department manager. Communicating all personnel problems and schedule requests to department manager or designated supervisor. Being able to assess, plan and provide individualized care for patients in compliance with physician's order, taking into account the patient's mental status and development and physical needs based on age specifics. Being asked to perform other respiratory care procedures based on demonstrated competency per the department manager's approval. Demonstrating by performance understanding of Mission, Vision and Values of system. Demonstrating knowledge and responsibility for the effective and safe use of all equipment in his/her activities. The facility provides, and employee participates in education and training to improve their knowledge and skills related to the patient population served and the type and nature of care provided by their department.
Education/ Qualifications/ Requirements: Must be a RRT licensed by the state of Georgia (RCP).Maintain CEUs as required by the State of Georgia for licensure. Current CPR certification. Current ACLS certification. Strong communication and writing skills are required. Must have extensive experience in and possessing a strong understanding of all areas of respiratory care, including but not limited to diagnostic testing, therapeutics, monitoring, rehabilitation, home care and patient/family education. Clinical evaluation, assessment skills are required for all age groups of patients served by the facility.
Physical Demands: Employee is required to both sit and stand for prolonged periods. Will be required to lift up to 25 lbs. Bending, stooping, are all frequently done in a workday. The ability to think and work under stress, to tolerate being subjected to frequent interruptions, and be willing to work beyond normal working hours as necessary.
