Exciting opportunity for an Accounting Supervisor to play a critical role in the day-to-day financial operations of a growing government contracting organization. This hands-on position is responsible for overseeing core accounting functions including accounts payable, payroll, timekeeping, project setup, customer billing, subcontractor invoicing, and month-end close activities. Reporting to senior finance leadership, this individual will collaborate closely with Project Management, Contracts, Human Resources, and Executive Leadership to ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate brings strong project-based accounting experience, expertise in government contracting environments, and proficiency with Deltek Costpoint and Unanet.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including invoice review, coding, approvals, payment processing, vendor reconciliations, expense reports, corporate credit card transactions, and annual 1099 support. Ensure all expenses are accurately allocated to the appropriate projects, organizations, accounts, and indirect cost pools. Administer semi-monthly payroll and employee timekeeping processes, including payroll reconciliations, adjustments, journal entries, compliance reviews, and coordination with Human Resources. Monitor employee timesheets for accuracy, approval compliance, proper charge code usage, and adherence to government contractor timekeeping requirements. Review and process subcontractor and consultant invoices, validating labor categories, labor hours, billing rates, travel expenses, funding limitations, and contract compliance requirements. Track subcontract commitments, funding utilization, invoicing activity, and remaining contract balances while coordinating with project managers and contracts personnel to resolve discrepancies. Establish and maintain projects within Deltek Costpoint including project structures, task codes, revenue methods, billing formulas, funding, labor categories, and contract modifications. Support project lifecycle management activities, including project setup, maintenance, documentation, and closeout processes. Prepare and review customer invoices for cost-reimbursable, fixed-price, and time-and-materials contracts while ensuring compliance with contractual billing requirements. Monitor contract funding ceilings, billing schedules, accounts receivable balances, and outstanding collections activities. Support government customer invoicing through electronic billing platforms such as WAWF and IPP.Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and other month-end close activities. Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes while maintaining audit-ready accounting records. Support indirect-rate calculations, project financial reporting, financial analysis, and cash flow monitoring. Develop and maintain accounting procedures, internal controls, and process documentation to strengthen compliance and operational effectiveness. Identify opportunities to streamline, automate, and enhance accounting processes through improved utilization of Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, and related financial systems. Support internal audits, external financial statement audits, DCAA reviews, and other government compliance audits. Perform special projects, reporting requests, and financial analyses as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a government contracting environment. Strong knowledge of accounts payable, payroll, timekeeping, billing, subcontractor accounting, project accounting, and month-end close procedures. Experience supporting federal government contracts, including fixed-price, cost-reimbursable, and time-and-materials contract structures. Working knowledge of FAR regulations, DCAA requirements, indirect cost structures, and government contractor accounting practices. Hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint and familiarity with Unanet. Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP functions, data analysis, and reconciliations. CPA or other professional accounting certifications preferred. Experience improving accounting processes, workflows, internal controls, and system automation initiatives. Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, analytical capabilities, and problem-solving abilities. Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while consistently meeting critical deadlines.
