The City of Virginia Beach Public Works Department is currently hiring a Motor Equipment Operator III to perform a variety of tasks in the Stormwater Maintenance division, duties to include: Operate a Vacuum Truck and utilize associated equipment to clean and remove debris from stormwater drainage pipes. Operate a dump truck in connection with the transportation of sand, stone, gravel, and supplies. Operate a light truck in carrying tools, equipment, and supplies, to and from the job site. Operate a motor truck engaged in snow removal and sanding of icy streets and roads. Operate dump truck and/or backhoe in making ditch repairs. Assist with pump station maintenance, pond aerator maintenance, sluice gate maintenance, and street sweeper/vacuum truck maintenance. Service and perform minor repairs on automotive equipment, including, but not limited to, excavator, front - end loader, backhoe, and vacuum truck. Assist in loading and unloading materials and equipment transported by truck. Position also requires a significant amount of work by hand when cleaning drainage structures, pipes, ditches, removing debris, cutting down trees, and shoveling sediment. Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge, and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs. Work Schedules: Monday-Thursday, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm or Tuesday-Friday, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm A pre-employment physical is required. Must possess a Commercial Driver's License – Class A (VA or NC)CDL Hiring Bonus: Newly hired employees with a valid Class A or B CDL will be eligible for a $4,000 hiring bonus paid in three increments during the first year of employment:$1,000 with first paycheck$1,000 first pay period following six-month interim eval (with "meets expectation" performance rating)$2,000 at conclusion of probationary period (with "meets expectation" performance rating) The City offers a generous benefits package, which includes health, dental and life insurance, retirement and savings plans, maternity/paternity and parental leave, holidays and leave.
