Position LocationThis position is onsite and located in Moffett Field, CA.
Job Overview: The Water Treatment Specialist performs skilled technical work involving the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC and environmental control systems and associated equipment. The position performs diagnostic and repair activities on refrigeration, heating, ventilation, electrical, and control components and monitors boiler and cooling tower water chemistry to ensure proper operating conditions. The Water Treatment Specialist tests water chemistry and adjusts chemical treatments as necessary while supporting the safe and reliable operation of facility HVAC and related systems.

ResponsibilitiesEssential Job Duties:
  • Troubleshoots, installs, services, maintains, and repairs HVAC and environmental control systems and associated equipment.
  • Tests boiler and cooling tower water chemistry and adjusts chemical treatments as necessary to maintain proper operating conditions.
  • Installs and services compressors, condensers, evaporators, motors, controls, ventilation fans, and associated HVAC components.
  • Performs work in accordance with applicable blueprints, engineering specifications, wiring diagrams, and codes.
  • Fabricates, assembles, and installs ductwork and chassis components using appropriate metal working tools and welding equipment.
  • Cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs tubing and piping using applicable tools and equipment.
  • Connect tubing and piping to refrigeration equipment using appropriate sleeves, couplings, unions, soldering, and other applicable joining methods.
  • Installs expansion and discharge valves and other refrigeration system components.
  • Connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and associated power sources.
  • Installs air and water filters as part of completed HVAC system installations.
  • Charges refrigeration systems and monitors operating pressures using pressure and vacuum gauges.
  • Adjust system controls to achieve proper equipment operation.
  • Tests joints and connections for refrigerant or gas leaks using appropriate testing methods and equipment.
  • Installs insulation on piping and secures insulation using appropriate materials and methods.
  • Troubleshoots and replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, electrical wiring, and other associated components.
  • Uses electrician's hand tools, test equipment, and hand and power tools common to the trade in performing assigned work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job RequirementsMandatory:
  • High school graduate or equivalent GED.
  • Completion of an HVAC apprenticeship program.
  • Four (4) years of journeyman-level experience or two (2) years of technical experience.
  • CFC and HFC certification for universal-type refrigerants.
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools common to trade.
  • Ability to interpret and apply applicable codes, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of the operation and installation of HVAC systems and equipment.
  • Strong HVAC diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to install, troubleshoot, service, maintain, and repair environmental control and HVAC systems and associated components.
  • Ability to use pressure and vacuum gauges and applicable test equipment to evaluate system operation and identify deficiencies.
  • Ability to test boiler and cooling tower water chemistry and adjust chemical treatments as necessary.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required intelligence community level clearance.
  • Valid state driver’s license and a suitable driving record.
