What You’ll Do:
The Manufacturing Supervisor, Coating & Fluid Bed Dryingis responsible for overseeing daily tablet coating and fluid bed drying operations within oral solid dosage pharmaceutical manufacturing. This role supervises manufacturing personnel, coordinates production activities, and ensures adherence to cGMPs, SOPs, approved batch records, safety requirements, and Good Documentation Practices. The Manufacturing Supervisor provides floor leadership and technical guidance to maintain process consistency, achieve product quality requirements, develop employee capabilities, and meet production schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise daily tablet coating and fluid bed drying activities, ensuring operations are performed in accordance with approved batch records, SOPs, and production schedules.
Assign daily work, coordinate staffing, materials, and equipment availability, and manage processing priorities and material transfers between manufacturing stages.
Oversee equipment setup, inspection, operation, cleaning, and changeovers for tablet coating systems and fluid bed dryers; ensure required line clearances and readiness checks are completed before production begins.
Ensure material identity, release status, and traceability are verified before use, and oversee coating solution or suspension preparation, handling, and use in accordance with approved instructions.
Monitor coating parameters, including spray rate, atomization air pressure, airflow, pan speed, and inlet, exhaust, and product temperatures, as applicable, to maintain approved operating conditions and consistent coating quality.
Monitor fluid bed drying parameters, including airflow, temperatures, filter performance, and drying time, and ensure required moisture testing and endpoint criteria are completed and documented.
Guide troubleshooting of coating defects and drying inconsistencies, ensuring adjustments remain within approved parameters and process deviations or quality concerns are promptly escalated.
Review batch records, equipment logbooks, in-process results, production yields, and material reconciliations for accuracy and completeness, ensuring discrepancies are addressed through approved procedures.
Train, coach, and evaluate manufacturing personnel, reinforce performance and safety expectations, and ensure employees are trained and qualified to perform assigned tasks.
Coordinate with Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and other departments to support equipment troubleshooting, deviation investigations, corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs), change controls, and process improvements.
Maintain effective shift handoffs, communicate production status and outstanding issues, and enforce housekeeping, gowning, equipment safety, and contamination prevention requirements.
What We’re Looking For
Experience:
3–5 years of supervisory experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, overseeing production personnel and daily manufacturing operations.
Direct experience inoral solid dosage manufacturing, including both tablet coating and fluid bed drying, required.
Demonstrated experience overseeing coating equipment and fluid bed dryer setup, operation, cleaning, changeovers, and troubleshooting.
Experience monitoring coating and drying parameters, reviewing in-process results, and maintaining compliance with approved processing requirements.
Experience coordinating production schedules, training manufacturing personnel, reviewing batch manufacturing records, and supporting investigations and process improvements within a cGMP-regulated environment.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field preferred. Skills & Knowledge:
Strong working knowledge of cGMPs, Good Documentation Practices (GDP), data integrity principles, SOPs, and batch manufacturing records.
Technical understanding of tablet coating processes, including solution or suspension preparation, spray systems, coating uniformity, and applicable weight-gain or endpoint requirements.
Working knowledge of fluid bed drying principles, including fluidization, airflow, temperature control, filtration, moisture testing, and drying endpoints.
Ability to recognize coating defects and drying inconsistencies, evaluate potential process or equipment causes, and coordinate appropriate troubleshooting and escalation.
Working knowledge of equipment cleaning, line clearance, material handling, and contamination prevention procedures.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to coach employees, reinforce accountability, and manage multiple production priorities.
