In this autonomous, high-impact field role, you will take total ownership of mobile diagnostics, heavy hydraulic repairs, engine overhauls, and emergency roadside recovery for our specialized pavement marking fleet, Class 8 transport trucks, and heavy construction equipment. Dispatched in a fully equipped mobile service truck, you will troubleshoot real-time mechanical failures away from the shop bay to keep active highway and commercial projects moving. Key Responsibilities: Mobile Field Diagnostics & Repairs: Troubleshoot, isolate, and repair complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic failures on-site across light-duty fleet trucks, Class 8 transport vehicles, and specialized heavy construction machinery. Hydraulic & Electrical Systems Mastery: Execute preventative maintenance and complex system overhauls using OEM blueprints, wiring schematics, high-pressure hydraulic circuits, and pneumatic diagrams. Emergency Field & Roadside Recovery: Provide rapid-response tactical repair assistance for jobsite breakdowns-executing structural repairs under tight time constraints or coordinating heavy towing logistics. Field Fabrication & Structural Welding: Perform custom structural cutting, torching, and wire-feed/stick welding (MIG/SMAW) to adapt, reinforce, or repair field components on active jobsites. Quality Assurance & Safety Inspection: Rigorously inspect and test all field-repaired equipment to guarantee 100% operational safety, mechanical reliability, and performance before returning assets to active service. DOT Compliance & Regulatory Inspections: Perform routine vehicle inspections, assist with official DOT compliance tracking, and ensure all fleet assets meet state and federal safety regulations. What You Need to Succeed (Qualifications) Required Professional Diesel Tenure: Minimum 3 to 5+ years of verified experience as a fleet mechanic, diesel technician, or heavy equipment field service technician. Engine & Systems Fluency: Proven hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, multi-phase electrical systems, and high-pressure hydraulic systems. Mobility Credentials: Valid Driver License with a clean, insurable driving record (no major violations within the last 5 years) to operate company mobile service vehicles. Physical Capability & Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs continuously, navigate unpaved jobsites, and perform physical mechanical repairs in varying outdoor weather conditions. Educational Foundation: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred: Commercial Licensing: Active Commercial Driver License (CDL Class A or B) - PLP Co. provides fully paid, on-the-job CDL training for qualified technicians. Inspection Credentials: Active Pennsylvania State Inspection License or DOT Inspector Certification. Structural Welding Experience: Practical proficiency in stick/MIG welding and oxy-fuel torch cutting.
