Regional Sr. Environmental Specialist

Overview As a Regional Sr. Environmental Specialist, you provide expert regulatory guidance across North America to support sites and business units. You will help drive sustainability, reduce risk, and maintain BASF’s license-to-operate by shaping environmental programs and training. You’ll collaborate with Legal, Global and Regional teams to implement compliance strategies and advocate BASF interests. This role combines regulatory mastery with cross-functional influence to advance BASF’s sustainability targets and performance. Compensation / Benefits Annual bonus Relocation support Flexible work arrangements Retirement savings plan with company match Mental health support Family forming benefits Responsibilities Provide multimedia environmental expert support (water, waste, air where applicable) to sites and BUs on regulatory compliance and permit issues Monitor regulatory developments, assess impact on BASF, and coordinate responses to information requests Develop regulatory advocacy strategies with internal and external stakeholders Collaborate with Legal to manage enforcement issues and protect BASF’s license-to-operate and reputation Support Responsible Care Management Systems to drive compliance, risk reduction, and continuous improvement Identify opportunities to improve environmental performance and lead initiatives with Global/Regional teams Develop and deliver regulatory and BASF requirements training Participate in capital project EHS reviews and support environmental permitting for sites and major projects Key requirements Bachelor in Engineering or Science 8+ years’ experience implementing US EPA water and waste regulations at industrial sites Knowledge of US EPA water and waste regulations; air expertise a plus Familiarity with Texas, Louisiana and/or Michigan environmental regulations a plus Willingness to travel ~15%Experience with chemical manufacturing environments is a plus Strong collaboration and stakeholder management Effective communication with cross-functional teams Analytical thinking and problem solving Regulatory compliance expertise for water, waste (and air if applicable)Environmental permitting and regulatory advocacyEHS program implementation and training
