Teaches sign language classes. Provides support services for teachers and student tutoring as required. May assist in coordinating and supervising interpreter services. Reports to the assigned principal and/or consultant. Specific duties and responsibilities include: Interpreting English to sign language class instructions, lectures and other communications for hearing impaired students in academic or vocational classes. Interpreting for students during school hours at assemblies, vocational rehabilitation, etc., and after-school as necessary for extra-curricular activities. Interpreting sign language to English for students as necessary. Providing supplementary tutoring for students in a variety of subjects as needed. Reporting any problems students encounter in academic or vocational classes to responsible teachers. Teaching sign languages classes. Assisting in coordinating, scheduling and supervising interpreter services. Receiving, reviewing, preparing and/or submitting a variety of documents such as student evaluations, student records and progress reports, lesson plans, memos, etc. Interacting and communicating with departmental supervisors and co-workers, District department heads and employees, students, teachers, parents, etc. Complying with all federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, administrative rules, and directives. Additional duties may include performing related duties and assisting teachers and principals as required. Minimum education and training requires an Associate's degree in sign language interpretation supplemented by two years of experience as an interpreter in an educational setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a Comprehensive Skill Certificate as granted through the Registry of Interpreters.
