LISD Student Resident The main purpose of the LISD Student Resident is to support the professional growth of student teachers in a year-long program, who work under the mentorship of a high-performing master teacher for a full academic year to support teacher retention. Student Residents in LISD benefit from the residency program as they work with current LISD educators to grow in the creation of positive, productive environments and implementation of best instructional practices to support student growth. The Resident is deeply integrated into the school's faculty, participating in all professional responsibilities from the first day of teacher orientation to the final day of the school year.
Qualifications
Minimum Education/Certification: Enrolled in a state-approved educator preparation program. Enrolled in a University partnering with LISD for student teacher residency.
Special Knowledge/Skills/Experience: Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior. Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Administer the LISD school elementary curriculum consistent with the school district's goals and objectives.
  • Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate lesson plans into learning experiences in collaboration with your mentor teacher students' needs, including students with special needs; conduct individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Be a positive role model for students; support the mission of the school district.
  • Follow university guidelines and expectations in the residency program.
  • Support teachers in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrate integrity and ethics.
  • Utilize time wisely for effective management of job responsibilities.
  • Maintain punctuality in assigned work times.
  • Meet task completion deadlines established by the supervisor.
  • Maintain a positive and professional tone in all communications, written and verbal.
  • Present a professional image in grooming and attire and serve as a role model for all campus personnel.
