Real Estate and Land Use Attorney

Responsibilities: The attorney’s responsibilities may include: Representing property owners and developers in zoning, land use, and entitlement matters; Preparing persuasive written submissions, including zoning applications, statements of compliance, legal memoranda, development justifications, correspondence, hearing materials and appeals; Preparing and presenting applications for rezonings, development plans, conditional use permits, variances, waivers, and related approvals; Appearing before planning commissions, boards of adjustment, legislative bodies, and other governmental agencies; Advising clients regarding zoning regulations, development requirements, permitting, and administrative procedures; Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating purchase and sale agreements, leases, easements, declarations, development agreements, and other real estate documents; Reviewing title commitments, surveys, restrictive covenants, easements, and due diligence materials; Assisting with commercial real estate acquisitions, dispositions, financing, and closings; Identifying legal and practical issues affecting development projects and recommending workable solutions; Communicating directly with clients, opposing counsel, consultants, governmental officials, and other project participants; and Managing multiple matters and deadlines with appropriate support from other attorneys and staff.

Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have: A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school; An active Kentucky law license or the ability to become licensed in Kentucky; Experience in land use, zoning, real estate development, commercial real estate transactions, or a combination of these areas; Excellent legal writing skills, including the ability to prepare clear, concise, well-organized, and persuasive written work; Strong drafting, analytical, negotiation, and oral communication skills; The ability to translate complex legal and regulatory issues into practical advice for clients; The ability to independently manage matters while also working collaboratively with other attorneys and staff; Sound judgment, professionalism, and a practical approach to problem-solving; and An interest in developing long-term client relationships and becoming an active part of the firm’s real estate development and land use practice. Compensation and Benefits: Compensation is expected to range from $120,000 to $180,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, existing practice, and the level of responsibility the attorney is prepared to assume. Higher compensation considered for a candidate with substantial relevant experience or an established book of business.
