About STooPS Art & Community STooPS Art & Community is a Brooklyn-based 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to creating public, community-rooted art programming that brings artists and neighbors together. Started as a response to the gentrification of BedStuy, Brooklyn, STooPS Art & Community was birthed in 2013 by Founder/Director, Kendra J. Ross with the vision to make art accessible while valuing creators and honoring the local. STooPS creates opportunities for community building through workshops and showcasing interactive, multidisciplinary art on neighborhood stoops, sidewalks, and storefronts. We reinvigorate outdoor spaces and the iconic brownstone stoops in honor of their legacy of communal care, networking, rest, and social activism.
About the Role:
STooPS is seeking a Creative Producer to help bring our programming to life from first concept through day-of execution. Working closely with our Founder/Director, this person will manage the logistics, budgets, production teams, and community partnerships that make our events possible. This is a great fit for someone who loves the mix of creative vision and operational detail: someone who can dream up an event with an artist in one meeting and negotiate an equipment rental in the next.
Location: Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, NY
Type: Part-time Hybrid position (mostly remote except select meetings and events)
Reports to: Founder/Director
Compensation:
$1000-$1500/month
Nov-Jan: Average 8-10hr/week
Feb 14-20: 40 hr (Black Future Festival Event)
March-May: 8-10hr/week
July 19-24: 40 hr (Summer Festival)
August 2-13 BREAK
Sept-Oct: Average 15hr/week (Fall Fun Series)
*Note: Times are estimates based on role year round. This position shifts seasonally with time/hours more concentrated closer to events and less during slower seasons
What You'll Do:
Programming & Planning Collaborate with the Founder/Director to shape the creative vision and logistical plan for all programming
Lead monthly brainstorms on logistical considerations for proposed events, including artist spaces and general equipment needs
Suggest artists based on organizational values and budget considerations
Assess artists' supply, audio/visual, technical, and space requirements
Manage relationship and coordinating logistics for Educational workshops and programs
Production & Team Management Master Production schedule and timeline
Run of Show
Event logistics and planning
Operations guides and info sheets
Hire and manage day-of consultants, including production/stage managers, admin production assistants, and community liaisons
Hire and manage the broader production team
Source and rent technical equipment based on budget and venue feasibility
Community Partnerships Build relationships with community entities and partners, including homeowners, community organizations, and business owners
Help secure community partners for artists by identifying artists' particular interests and connecting them with appropriate community partners
Identify small businesses in Bed-Stuy and help form and cultivate relationships with them
What We're Looking For:
At least 3 years of Experience producing events, public programs, or art/cultural programming
Strong budgeting and vendor/contract management skills
Comfort hiring, briefing, and managing freelance production staff
Excellent relationship-building skills, with genuine interest in community engagement work
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple moving pieces at once
Familiarity with Bed-Stuy and/or Brooklyn's community and arts landscape a plus
Collaborative, low-ego working style — comfortable both leading logistics and supporting others' vision
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS May be required to lift up to 30 lbs
Travel by car, bus, train or airplane may be required for production and execution of public events.
Noise level exposure in work environment may be moderate to loud
Evening and weekend work required
Must be able to work in inclement weather, if necessary
