The Opportunity: We are seeking motivated college students eager to dive into digital journalism, audience development, and video storytelling. This three-month internship offers hands-on experience producing and packaging timely content for YouTube, social media, and major digital platforms.
Core Responsibilities: Interns will support Atlanta Black Star's editorial and audience teams by:
  • Editing timely news, political and cultural videos for YouTube and social media
  • Creating short-form and long-form video content using Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut, or similar software
  • Identifying compelling breaking-news clips, political moments, interviews and culturally relevant stories
  • Monitoring trusted news sources, public hearings, press conferences and social platforms for video opportunities
  • Researching stories, public figures and potential video topics
  • Writing engaging headlines, video descriptions, captions and social media copy
  • Sourcing appropriate footage, images and supporting materials
  • Adapting content for different platforms and audience behaviors
  • Assisting with publishing, organizing and tracking digital content
  • Supporting special editorial projects, including coverage of the 2026 midterm elections
  • Participating in team meetings and editorial discussions
  • Completing assignments accurately and within fast-moving news deadlines
Position Requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a college or university in good standing
  • Studying communications, journalism, digital media, political science or a related field
  • Strong interest in news, politics, culture and issues affecting Black communities
  • Some experience editing video for digital or social platforms
  • Familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut, or similar editing software
  • Strong writing, research and organizational skills
  • Good news judgment and an understanding of what makes a story visually compelling
  • Familiarity with YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok or other digital platforms
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Ability to respond to feedback and meet deadlines
  • Reliable access to a computer and high-speed internet
Experience managing a social media account, producing student journalism or creating original video content is a plus but not required. Selected interns will receive a total stipend of $1,500, which will be distributed in monthly increments of $500 per month. While preference will be given to students who can receive college credit for their participation, we also welcome and highly consider qualified applicants whose schools do not offer internship credit.
