Plumber Apprentice
Salary: Hourly rate: $14.55 - $17.32 Work days: 238 (8 hrs. per day)
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Texas Plumber Apprentice Registration, preferred
  • Valid Texas driver's license 6 months experience in plumbing field, preferred
  • Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of plumbing codes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in the English language
Performance Responsibilities and Duties: Maintenance and Repair:
  • Assists in assembling, installs, maintains, and pressure tests all pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, drainage, sprinkler, and gas systems according to specifications and plumbing codes
  • Assists in determining sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as indicated or according to work ordersAssists in installing and repair pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures, and plumbing system equipment, including sinks, commodes, water heaters, water softeners, etc.
  • Assists in repairing dishwashers and kitchen equipment that incorporate gas or water consumption
  • Receives and complete work ordersAssists in selecting material and hardware and make time and materials estimates
  • Maintains accurate records on material and labor used
  • Maintains inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials
  • Inspects jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean
  • Assists in working with building principals and supervisors to complete projects
  • Assists in detecting needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspections procedures
  • Responds to emergency calls as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Safety:
  • Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment
  • Operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures
  • Ensures that equipment is in safe operating condition
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately
  • Other:
  • Ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to district operations.
  • Support the goals and objectives of the school district and follows district policies.
  • Maintains a professional level of confidentiality concerning personnel and students.
  • Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the CISD safety program.
  • Equipment Used:
  • Hand and power tools; pipe bender; propane torch; welding equipment; sewer rooter; heavy equipment, including forklift, trencher, backhoe. Lift truck or van.
Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, around gas lines, around fumes and toxic chemicals, outside and inside. Exposure to extreme temperatures. Frequent district wide travel.
