The Manager of Inventory, Materials Control, Receiving and Scrap is responsible for overseeing all inventory-related activities, including receiving, storage, accuracy, material flow, and scrap management. This role ensures optimal inventory levels, accurate tracking, efficient receiving operations, and effective disposition of obsolete or scrap materials to support production and financial goals.

What You’ll Do:
Inventory Management & Accuracy:
Oversee inventory control processes to ensure high levels of accuracy (cycle counts, physical inventories)
Monitor inventory levels and reconcile discrepancies
Implement and maintain inventory control systems and procedures
Analyze inventory trends and optimize stock levels (min/max, safety stock)
Ensure ERP/WMS data integrity
Materials Planning & Control:
Coordinate material flow to support production and customer demand
Partner with procurement and production teams to ensure material availability
Manage material staging, kitting, and internal logistics
Support demand forecasting and inventory optimization initiatives
Receiving Operations:
Manage inbound shipments and receiving processes
Ensure timely and accurate receipt, inspection, and system entry of goods
Coordinate with suppliers and logistics teams to resolve discrepancies
Enforce compliance with documentation and quality requirements
Scrap & Obsolescence Management:
Develop and manage scrap reduction initiatives
Track, report, and analyze scrap and obsolete inventory
Coordinate proper disposal, recycling, or resale of scrap materials
Partner with finance to ensure accurate accounting and write-offs
Process Improvement & Systems Optimization:
Identify and implement process improvements (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.)
Optimize warehouse layout and material handling processes
Lead system enhancements (ERP/WMS improvements, automation)
Develop KPIs and reporting dashboards
Team Leadership & Development:
Supervise inventory, receiving, and materials staff
Set performance goals and conduct evaluations
Provide training and coaching to improve team performance
Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures
Your Skills and Expertise:
To ensure your success from day one in this role, the following qualifications are required at a minimum:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or related field (preferred)
5–10+ years of experience in inventory/materials management
5 years’ experience as a Manager in a manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of ERP/WMS systems
Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies
Proven leadership and analytical skills
Ability to generate and interpret statistical data.
Proven experience in idea generation and cost reduction.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Inquisitive, detail-oriented with strong quantitative analytical skills and an innovative approach to problem solving.
MS Office, presentation, MAPICS (preferred).
Direct involvement and communication to the customer
Experience working in a team environment preferably with a small to medium size company
