This role requires a high level of technical knowledge, mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and independent judgment. The Machinist / Operator III is responsible for proper machine and material setup, in-process inspection, tooling and fixturing, accurate ERP transactions, process adjustments, and producing parts to the required quantity and quality standards. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can take ownership of a job from start to finish, identify opportunities for improvement, and communicate issues and solutions effectively.
What You'll Do:
Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and mill-turn equipment according to established processes and work instructions. Program and make appropriate adjustments to CNC equipment as required. Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, work instructions, and GD&T requirements. Select and utilize appropriate cutting tools, workholding, tooling, and fixturing for different materials and machining processes. Load and unload parts and materials safely and correctly. Perform in-process inspections and make necessary adjustments to maintain part quality. Use precision measurement equipment, including calipers, micrometers, and CMMs, to verify dimensional requirements. Monitor machine operation, controls, and display readouts to identify potential malfunctions or process issues. Compare machine output and inspection results against specifications and take appropriate action when requirements are not being met. Make process and machine adjustments within established procedures and document changes accurately. Manage tooling and fixturing as required. Accurately enter production and quality information into the ERP system. Manufacture parts to required quantities while maintaining quality and production requirements. Identify and report faulty hardware, process issues, and non-conformances to the appropriate supervisor. Provide timely and accurate feedback to managers and fellow machinists. Assist with developing new machining methods, tooling, and processes for complex parts. Actively participate in and initiate continuous improvement initiatives. Maintain a clean, organized, and properly maintained 5S work area Support routine machine maintenance and assist with troubleshooting as required. Follow all facility, machine, quality, and safety procedures. Immediately communicate safety concerns or unsafe conditions. Take ownership of assigned work and see projects through from start to finish. Perform other duties as assigned. What You Bring
Experience & Education:
6+ years of CNC machining experience required. Experience in a high-precision, aerospace, defense, medical, or military manufacturing environment is highly valued. High school diploma or equivalent required. Demonstrated ability to work independently and take ownership of machining projects. Technical Skills Proficiency operating and programming 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC mills and lathes Experience with mill-turn machining preferred. Doosan Mill/Turn experience is a plus. Fanuc controls experience is a plus. Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, technical specifications, and CAD models. Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) Proficiency with precision measurement equipment, including: Calipers Micrometers CMM equipment Ability to select appropriate cutting tools, workholding, and fixturing based on material, geometry, and machining requirements. Ability to recognize process issues and make appropriate adjustments while maintaining documentation and quality requirements. Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to: Lift and handle equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds Stand for extended periods while working in a manufacturing environment. Use hands and fingers to handle tools, equipment, parts, and materials. Reach with hands and arms. Perform work requiring close and distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work in an industrial environment where exposure to machine noise is expected.
