Pay Grade/Days: Clerical 3/183 DaysDate Revised: 9/30/26 Primary Purpose:
Operate the school library/media center. Provide services and resources that allow students to develop skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, and using information to solve problems. Serve as the materials facilitator to ensure that library/media center is involved in instructional programs of the school.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- At least 60 college hours from accredited university
- College degree from accredited university preferred
- Valid Texas Educational Aide III Certificate
- Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Proficient typing, keyboarding, and file maintenance skillsAbility to file books following district cataloging system
- Effective communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work well with students
Experience: One-year experience working with children
One-year clerical experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Library Program Support:
Provide individual instruction and assistance in using library media center resources including computers and audiovisual equipment.
Shelve incoming books, materials, and equipment.
Ready materials for classroom or reserve collection use as requested by teachers.
Request and schedule use of materials from regional education service center or other sources.
Prepare bulletin boards and displays and assist the librarian in preparing instructional materials.
May read to small groups of students and listen to individual students read aloud.
Accounting and Inventory:
Operate the media center automated circulation system.
Collect and maintain records of student fines and prepare parent notification as needed.
Receive and process books, materials, and equipment and reconcile with packing slips and invoices.
Repair books, magazines, materials, and equipment or process for repair at outside facilities (e.g., bindery).Perform routine maintenance on audiovisual equipment.
Annual inventory and weeding of library media center materials.
Clerical Support:
Maintain physical and computerized files, including card catalog, vertical file materials, and publisher catalogs.
Prepare bibliographies, forms, purchase orders, requisitions, and routine correspondence using personal computer or typewriter.
Keep administrative records and preparing required reports.
Student Management:
Supervise students and assist teachers to maintain student behavior and maintain an orderly atmosphere.
Perform assigned student monitoring duties.
OtherAssist with the supervision of parent volunteers and student aides.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Regular attendance
Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Equipment Used: Typewriter, personal computer, printer, and copier.
Working Conditions:

- Work with continuous interruptions. Maintain emotional control under stress. Climbing, stretching; and frequent lifting of books, boxes, and audiovisual equipment.
