About the company: Our client is a fast-growing, venture-backed healthtech company using clinical expertise and applied AI to reduce waste and improve accuracy in healthcare payments. They partner with large payers and are expanding their engineering organization to scale a GenAI-powered product used in production every day.
About the role: This Staff-level role is for an engineer who thrives on ambiguous, cross-team problems. You’ll set architectural direction, turn company strategy into technical roadmaps, and raise the bar for the engineers around you. You’ll also help scale the company’s GenAI applications on a modern cloud backend. The team works primarily in Python or TypeScript, depending on the project. Experience in either is a plus but not required. Strong, transferable backend fundamentals and the ability to pick up new tools quickly matter more.
What you’ll do:
  • Architect and own delivery of complex backend systems that span multiple teams
  • Set backend design and coding standards across engineering
  • Build and ship data-intensive applications in production
  • Lead adoption of AI coding assistants, including best practices and measuring productivity impact
  • Mentor senior engineers and influence decisions without formal authority
  • Partner with fullstack, data, DevOps, AI, product, and business teams on an AI-driven review platform
  • Own testing strategy, system health, observability, and build-vs-buy decisions for critical infrastructure
  • What you bring 10+ years of software engineering experience, including leading high-impact backend projects at scale (production APIs and large-scale data processing)
  • Hands-on experience with relational databases and data modeling
  • Strong system design and cloud experience (AWS preferred): CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, and observability (logging, usage metrics, Datadog or similar)A track record of using AI coding assistants to improve team productivity
  • Excellent communication skills and experience mentoring senior engineers

  • Healthcare SaaS experience
  • Shipped user-facing AI products or deployed ML models
  • Experience building SDKs or libraries
  • Vector databases
  • Workflow orchestration (Airflow, Dagster)
  • Messaging and streaming systems (SQS, Kinesis, Kafka)
  • GraphQL and PostgreSQLOpen source contributions or technical writing
