At Camp Laurel South, a Flag Football Counselor serves as an Athletics Specialist and Cabin Counselor. You’ll be responsible for running a high-energy program on the camp’s professional-grade athletic fields, focusing on skill development, sportsmanship, and—most importantly—fun. As a Flag Football Instructor, you will lead daily activity periods for campers ages 7–15. You are responsible for transforming the field into a space where kids of all skill levels feel confident playing. You will manage everything from basic drills to officiating full-camp tournaments. Teach the fundamentals of the game, including passing mechanics, route running, defensive positioning, and flag-pulling techniques. Organize and referee daily scrimmages, ensuring games remain competitive but fair and inclusive for all skill levels. Use sports as a tool to teach life skills like teamwork, resilience, and "winning with grace." Live in a cabin with a co-counselor and 8–12 campers, managing their daily schedule, hygiene, and social dynamics. The ideal candidate is a former high school or collegiate athlete, or a physical education student with a deep passion for the game and youth development. Strong knowledge of football rules and strategy; experience playing or coaching at a competitive level is highly preferred. The ability to break down complex plays into simple steps for younger campers while challenging older, more experienced athletes. Must be able to maintain enthusiasm through multiple outdoor sessions in the Maine summer sun. Must be available for the full 7-week season, including Staff Orientation in mid-June.
