Cosmetologist Instructor

Position Summary: The Cosmetology Instructor will be responsible for providing practical instruction, technical guidance, and professional mentorship in various areas of cosmetology. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in the beauty industry, strong teaching abilities, and a thorough understanding of Virginia cosmetology standards, sanitation requirements, and professional salon practices. This position is ideal for a licensed instructor who enjoys sharing knowledge, developing talent, and helping future beauty professionals improve their technical skills and confidence.

Key Responsibilities: Provide hands-on instruction in professional hairstyling, haircutting, coloring, and chemical treatments. - Teach proper shampooing, conditioning, blow-drying, silk pressing, and styling techniques. - Demonstrate professional hair extension installations, sew-ins, wig applications, and other advanced styling methods. - Provide guidance on natural hair care, protective hairstyles, and African hair braiding techniques. - Teach appropriate sanitation, disinfection, workplace safety, and infection-control procedures. - Evaluate trainees' practical skills and provide constructive feedback. - Develop structured training activities, demonstrations, and practical assessments. - Mentor aspiring cosmetologists and help them develop professional confidence. - Assist with preparation for Virginia cosmetology licensing examinations, where applicable. - Maintain accurate training and attendance records when required. - Promote professional ethics, customer service, time management, and salon etiquette. - Ensure training activities comply with applicable Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) requirements. - Collaborate with salon management to identify training needs and improve service quality.

Qualifications and Requirements: Valid Virginia Cosmetology Instructor License, where required for the assigned duties. - Active Virginia Cosmetology License or other credentials required for the position. - Minimum of 2 3 years of professional cosmetology experience preferred. - Previous teaching, mentoring, or practical training experience preferred. - Strong knowledge of haircutting, coloring, hairstyling, chemical treatments, and hair care. - Familiarity with Virginia cosmetology regulations and licensing requirements. - Excellent verbal communication and instructional skills. - Ability to demonstrate techniques clearly and patiently. - Strong organizational and leadership abilities. - Professional appearance, reliability, and commitment to workplace safety. - Ability to work effectively with individuals at different skill levels.

Preferred Skills: Additional experience in the following areas is highly desirable: - African hair braiding and natural hair care - Hair extensions, wigs, frontals, and closures - Advanced hair coloring and corrective coloring - Bridal and special occasion hairstyling - Cosmetology curriculum development - Student assessment and examination preparation - Salon management and customer service training - Apprenticeship supervision and documentation
