Trustpoint. One is pleased to partner with a business law firm in its search for an Employment Law Attorney to assist them on a part-time (20 to 25+ hours per week) indefinite temporary basis in either of their Detroit area offices. This attorney will provide support to businesses on a broad range of employment law and human resources matters and will serve as a practical resource to management and HR professionals, providing day-to-day counseling designed to help clients make informed employment decisions, maintain compliance with applicable state and federal laws, and proactively mitigate employment-related risk.
The ideal candidate will have strong employment law experience and be comfortable advising businesses on both routine HR matters and more complex employment issues. This is a hands-on role requiring sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to translate employment law requirements into practical guidance for business leaders and HR professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day employment law counseling to business clients and HR professionals regarding employee relations and workplace matters.
Advise clients on compliance with applicable state and federal employment laws and regulations.
Review, assess, and develop:
Employee handbooks, policies, and procedures
Employment, non-compete, confidentiality, and trade secret agreements
Layoff and reduction-in-force plans
Employee benefits and executive compensation matters
Affirmative Action plans
Counsel clients regarding FMLA compliance and other employment-related leave and workplace requirements.
Assist with and advise on workplace investigations, including investigation planning, interviews, documentation, and recommendations.
Conduct or assist with human resources audits to identify potential compliance issues and areas for improvement.
Develop and deliver supervisory and in-service training on employment law, HR practices, and workplace compliance.
Provide practical guidance to HR personnel and business leaders regarding day-to-day employment decisions that may implicate legal requirements.
Help clients proactively identify and address employment-related risks before they develop into litigation, regulatory issues, or statutory violations.
Prepare and review employment-related materials, training resources, policies, and other documentation.
Support additional employment law and HR projects as needed.
Qualifications:
J.D. from an accredited law school and active Michigan bar admission.
3+ years of substantive employment law experience, preferably in a law firm or business counseling environment.
Experience advising employers and HR professionals on a broad range of workplace and employment matters.
Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state employment laws, including FMLA and workplace compliance requirements.
Experience with employee handbooks, employment agreements, policies and procedures, workplace investigations, and reductions in force.
Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills.
Ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
Excellent judgment and discretion when handling confidential employee and business matters.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple client matters, and prioritize effectively in a part-time environment.
Hourly Pay Rate: Starting at $70/hour and up, commensurate with experience.
