Our client, a major refinery in Anacortes, WA, is looking to immediately hire two Lab Technicians. Local candidates only, no per diem. Temporary to direct positions. DuPont schedule: Must be able to work both 10-hour day shifts (6:00 AM–4:00 PM) and 10-hour swing shifts (2:00 PM–12:00 AM).TWIC Card is required. Hourly wage: $35-$37.Basic Function Under moderate supervision, you will be responsible for finished product quality control and specification compliance testing. You will manage and communicate test data, verify test equipment, execute various proficiency sample testing programs, and perform routine laboratory tasks.
Job Duties: Conducts routine product quality control and product or specification compliance testing Enters and maintains lab results in appropriate databases and written records and communicates results to assigned area management and other personnel to permit formulation adjustments where needed Keeps work area clean and organized Verifies and maintains testing instruments and ancillary test equipment Executes required Health, Safety & Environmental programs and initiatives for assigned areas, as directed Conducts proficiency sample testing Manages expendable laboratory supplies May include some or all of the following: Executes requirements of the Quality Manual and related quality systems Provides environmental regulatory and compliance support Performs basic routine instrument maintenance and calibration Runs SQC on test equipment, plots test results, reports any out-of-control situations, and documents actions taken Communicates with operations regarding off-spec results or atypical samples Collects and distributes samples to customers and others Performs special assignments or tasks as assigned by the employee's supervisor from time to time ExperienceA minimum of six months of related material testing experience is required.
Preferred Experience: One year of laboratory or equivalent work experience, depending on location. Education LevelA minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Preferred Education: A Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Chemistry or a related field.
Required Skills: Basic mechanical ability and understanding of the operational principles of assigned-area testing instruments. Basic ability to perform routine tests daily. Ability to communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing, with strong organizational skills. Ability to complete all required classroom and CBT training. Depending on location, ability to exhibit average or better Z-scores on proficiency testing programs or to move drums of product and 150 lb. gas cylinders. Depending on location, elementary algebra skills and proficiency with spreadsheet and word-processing software applications are required. Basic reading and writing skills and the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations are also required.
Preferred Skills: Familiarity with laboratory methods and equipment for running tests such as D86 distillations, sulfur, pour point, flash point, color, and API gravity (depending on location). Basic computer skills, including knowledge of presentation and email software applications. Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility None. Work Conditions Office-based with up to 10% travel by land and air required. Work environments may include petroleum refineries, warehouses/plants, outdoor locations, and driving environments, including but not limited to areas involving chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, and rotating equipment. Subject to varying temperatures, weather, and road conditions. May be required to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, and a rotating schedule as required.
Physical Requirements: Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs., pushing and/or pulling up to 50 lbs., and perceiving color differences.
