Our expertise span multiple core segments of the heavy highway and bridge construction arena, across Maryland, Virginia and Washington DC.The primary responsibilities are planning, directing, and coordinating construction activities associated with heavy civil projects, mainly construction, repair and maintenance of roads, bridges and underground utilities. The position is further expected to participate in and positively contribute to the conceptual development of project estimates and work-plans followed by overseeing the projects' organization, scheduling, budgeting, and implementation.
Roles and responsibilities include: working with the safety managers and executive team to create and maintain a project level safety plan providing a framework for the consistent implementation of safety procedures and safe work practices; planning, organizing and directing all activities related to assigned construction projects; monitoring the performance of assigned project teams; preparing resourcing, scheduling and budgeting plans to achieve project goals and being accountable for the respective performance of the project; generating and tracking budget estimates and providing weekly/monthly reports regarding progress and cost; negotiating, drafting and managing subcontracts and purchase orders; coordinating submittals and schedules with third parties to ensure quality, compliance and timeliness; representing the company in project meetings; providing technical advice to resolve discrepancies, improve overall quality, ensure safety and reduce costs; creating, distributing and overseeing the compliant execution of work plans that describe the sequencing, means and methods as well as associated risk factors; preparing project schedules aim at successful delivery of projects in consideration of realistic material, equipment and human resource constraints; managing contract change processes in response to differing conditions, delays, inclement weather or other unforeseen events; collecting and tracking project quantities, generating invoices, approving vendor/sub-contractor invoices and reporting deviations from estimates.
Qualifications include: minimum of a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or other related degree; 7+ years of related experience, 2+ years project management experience preferred in heavy construction (roads, bridges and underground utilities); capable of meeting deadlines, self-motivated, detail oriented; have above average interpersonal skills and have excellent follow-through capability; general knowledge of construction contract language and principles of dispute resolution; Microsoft Office Suite proficiency and working knowledge of project management and CPM scheduling software such as Sage Timberline, HCSS Heavy Bid/Heavy Job, Viewpoint, Procore, MS Project, Primavera P6 or other similar tools; verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills are essential to this position; ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment; able to accurately process construction plans and documents, provide technical engineering advice in the context of complex civil engineering projects, perform duties in a timely manner, be highly organized and able to interface and communicate effectively with company, clients and field personnel at all levels; travel to local jobsites 2-3 times per week.
