Fire Prevention OfficerThe Fire Prevention Officer administers and plans a comprehensive fire prevention program at the installation. Manages the Hazard Assessment Inspection Program, Public Fire Prevention and Education Program, Fire Protection Engineering, and Extinguisher Maintenance Program. Responsible for implementing internal controls, self-inspection, and audit compliance. Ensures education in compliance with security directives for employees having access to classified/computer information. Coordinates with the Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief, and other supervisors in the development and implementation of policies. Prepares, executes, and schedules assignments of subordinate personnel to ensure the installation meets the fire prevention requirements provided by the Department of the Air Force and Cooperative Agreement 1024. Maintains current knowledge of the base, its structures, and all systems related to fire protection and prevention. Prepares for facilities inspection and testing schedules for all buildings, facilities, fire alarm systems, sprinkler systems, and other extinguishing systems that are tested by fire prevention and suppression personnel. Direct follow-up inspections for all systems that have been out of order or repaired. Prepare contract specifications and support documentation for those fire extinguishers or systems that are to be contracted. Develops recommendations for the Fire Chief on the level and mixture of resources needed to ensure an effective and efficient program. Inspects maintenance of all suppression and detection systems on the installation. Identifies and reviews the status of base fire safety deficiencies on a regular and recurring basis and implements necessary corrective action within program concepts. Plans, administers, and supervises the fire prevention education program Reviews construction and modification plans, confers with engineers, and provides technical/functional assistance on fire prevention and building design criteria. As the logistics program manager, responsible for annual budget preparation, acquisition, controls, and the issue of supplies and equipment. As an Incident Safety Officer (ISO), participates in the incident management system as a command staff member and responds in accordance with SOP/SOG to emergency incidents. Directs the operation of firefighting vehicles such as pumpers and crash-rescue trucks. Directs and coordinates the completion and annual review of a comprehensive assessment and evaluation model as directed by the Department of Defense and Department of Air Force Instructions. Performs other tasks assigned by the Fire Chief or Deputy Fire Chief. Preferences: Knowledge of recognized standards covering fire protection and prevention techniques and procedures; agency and installation manuals, rules, and regulations; and federal, state, and local fire protection/prevention ordinances and building codes. Knowledge of the theory of fire propagation and progression, and the application of accepted techniques and principles to reduce or eliminate hazards in a specialized environment with a high fire expectancy and potential for severity. Knowledge of the layout, design, construction, and contents of buildings; location of fire protection systems; and other similar characteristics of a typical DOD installation. Ability to interpret facts, analyze, evaluate, and make sound decisions. Ability to plan, organize, and direct functions and to mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of the organization. Knowledge of safety and health hazards associated with emergency operations; building construction; fire science and behavior related to predicting dangerous fire ground environments; personnel accountability systems; incident scene rehabilitation strategies; and the ability to manage incident scene safety per organizational policies and national consensus standards. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to plan and execute a budget. Preference will be given to candidates with any or all of the following certifications: Fire Inspector III Public Fire and Life Safety Educator Plans Examiner I Knowledge: Knowledge of recognized standards covering fire protection and prevention techniques and procedures; agency and installation manuals, rules, and regulations; and federal, state, and local fire protection/prevention ordinances and building codes. Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's Degree (typically in Firefighting) Experience: 0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Firefighting) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Senior Firefighter Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Security Clearance Valid Driver's License Firefighter I Firefighter II Airport Firefighter Hazardous Materials Operations Driver/Operator Pumper Driver/Operator Mobile Water Supply Driver/Operator ARFF Fire Instructor I & Fire Instructor II Fire Officer I, Fire Officer II & Fire Officer III Fire Inspector I & Fire Inspector II Hazardous Materials Incident Commander All Certifications at all levels must be Pro Board- or IFSAC-accredited.
Physical Working Conditions: Applicants must successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination in accordance with NFPA 1582 and NFPA 1583 and a physical agility test (Occupational Task Evaluation or Current CPAT). You will be required to continuously wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes for the duration of the work shift. You will be required to work a 56.2-hour work schedule, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays, and is subject to overtime. Work may be performed where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g., fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, and chemicals). This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions. It requires you to participate in medical surveillance programs, falling under the respiratory protection and hearing conservation program. This position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
