Controller-Nonprofit Fully remote | Washington, DC-based nonprofit | Full-time direct hire Annual base salary $120K+ D.O.E. | Immediate opening Robert Joseph Group is recruiting a Controller with hands-on Sage Intacct experience for our Washington, DC-based nonprofit client. This newly created, fully remote role reports to the CFO and supports the organization and 20+ sponsored projects. You will own the monthly close and core accounting operations, supervise the Accounts Payable Manager, and help project leaders get accurate financial information and timely answers. The position offers direct involvement in accounting, payroll, controls, and financial systems.

Responsibilities: Lead month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting. Oversee biweekly payroll, timekeeping, 401(k) reconciliations, and employee cost allocations across 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) entities and projects. Coordinate the annual audit and support Form 990 preparation. Oversee accounts payable and strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls. Partner with revenue, grants, contracts, and systems colleagues to resolve discrepancies and improve data accuracy in Sage Intacct. Provide responsive financial support to sponsored projects.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; five or more years of progressive accounting experience with responsibility for accounting operations.

Required: hands-on Sage Intacct experience, month-end close ownership, payroll processing, reconciliations, and staff supervision.

Preferred: nonprofit or fiscal sponsorship experience, multi-entity accounting, audit and Form 990 support; CPA or CPA candidate. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills; comfortable working directly in the details. Other systems include BILL, Ramp, Paylocity, and Quickbase.
