Your Role:
As a Senior Database Administrator, you will be part of theteam managing and optimizing our enterprise-class SQL Server environment. Youwill be responsible for database installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, performance and optimization, security, backups, disaster recoveryand ongoing maintenance. You'll work closely with development, infrastructure, security and business teams to support critical applications, troubleshootissues and improve database reliability and scalability. You will be expectedto be proactive, hands-on and focused on delivering stable, high-performingdatabase solutions. You'll also help set and enforce standards, mentor teammembers and drive excellence in data management practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Databasemanagement: Administer and maintain SQL Serverinstances and databases, including installation, configuration, patchingand upgrades, while ensuring optimal performance, reliability and securityand optimizing costs Highavailability/disaster recovery: Install, administer andmaintain Windows Failover Clusters, SQL Server Always On availabilitygroups, replication and failover plans to ensure business continuity inthe event of a hardware failure or regional outage Monitoringand performance tuning: Proactively monitor databaseperformance, conduct tuning activities and implement improvements toenhance performance and efficiency Backupand recovery: Develop and implement backup (full, differential and log) and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity andavailability in case of failures; regularly test recoveries; and establishrecovery point objectives (RPOs) and recovery time objectives (RTOs) inpartnership with application and business teams Datasecurity: Implement security measures to safeguardsensitive data, including managing logins and roles, enabling encryptionand auditing activities to help prevent data from being breached ormisused Capacityplanning: Analyze capacity and utilization trends; forecast compute, memory, storage and I/O requirements; and recommendscaling or optimization actions while balancing performance, resilienceand cost Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve database-related issues in a timely manner, collaborating with other teams as appropriate Supportand mentoring: Support and mentor other databaseadministrators, fostering their growth and development Collaboration: Work closely with architects and developers to optimize databaseinteractions with applications and support ongoing system enhancements Continuouslearning: Stay current with evolving databasetechnologies and recommend upgrades and improvements
What You'll Bring:
Technicalexpertise: Demonstrate advanced skills in MicrosoftSQL Server (2012-2025) across on-premises and Azure environmentsHADRarchitecture: Demonstrate hands-on experience with SQLServer Always On availability groups, Windows Server Failover Clusteringand log shipping, as well as implementing optimal backup and restoreprocesses Performanceoptimization: Demonstrate deep knowledge of server, database and query tuning, including analyzing query execution plans, developing indexing strategies and interpreting wait statistics Monitoring: Demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience with database monitoringusing appropriate tools, monitoring server resource consumption andtrends, and setting up and tuning alerts and notifications Automationskills: Demonstrate proficiency in Power Shell scripting, T-SQL scripting and stored procedures to automate and streamline processes Analyticalmindset: Demonstrate strong problem-solvingabilities, attention to detail and a proactive approach Teamcollaboration: Demonstrate excellent communicationskills and the ability to work closely with diverse teams, as well asguide and train other DBAsDocumentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, processes, procedures, runbooks and data retention policies
Qualifications
Education: College degree, technical certification or equivalent industry experience
Experience:
More than 10 years of SQL Server administration experience intransactional or data warehouse environments Technicalskills: Expertise in T-SQL, Extended Events, Query Store, DMVs, execution plans, wait statistics, Management Studio, Always On, Windows Server Failover Clustering, Power Shell, SQL Sentry, Redgate, SSIS, SSAS and SSRSPreferredexperience: Experience with Azure SQL PaaS, CosmosDB, versioning and automated database deployments Softskills: Strong communication, organizational, mentoring, problem-solving and team-oriented skills
