Full-Time | Permanent Lead the Growth Strategy of a Critical Energy Infrastructure Platform
A leading owner and operator of district energy, utility, and sustainable infrastructure assets is seeking aVice President of Business Developmentto lead national growth initiatives across major metropolitan markets, healthcare systems, universities, data centers, developers, municipalities, and large commercial customers. This executive leadership role will be responsible for driving long-term revenue and gross margin growth through customer retention, expansion of existing energy systems, strategic partnerships, new market development, and complex commercial transactions. The successful candidate will help shape the future of resilient, lower-carbon energy infrastructure serving millions of square feet across the United States.
What You'll Do:
National Growth Strategy Develop and execute a national business development strategy focused on customer growth, renewals, system expansions, and strategic market development. Identify and evaluate opportunities across district energy, electrification, resiliency, distributed energy resources, microgrids, data centers, and public-private infrastructure partnerships. Build and manage a robust commercial pipeline, prioritizing opportunities based on strategic value, probability of success, and financial returns. Partner with regional operational leaders to align growth opportunities with existing infrastructure capacity and long-term investment plans. Commercial LeadershipLead the structuring, pricing, negotiation, and execution of complex energy service agreements and infrastructure transactions. Develop compelling customer value propositions that combine technical solutions, sustainability benefits, reliability, and financial returns. Oversee contract development, risk allocation, capital recovery strategies, and commercial governance processes. Present major opportunities, investment recommendations, and commercial strategies to executive leadership and board-level stakeholders. Strategic Partnerships & Customer Engagement Build executive-level relationships with developers, institutional customers, utilities, municipalities, investors, and industry partners. Lead customer retention and contract renewal strategies for key accounts. Establish strategic partnerships that expand market reach and accelerate growth. Serve as a trusted advisor and industry representative throughout the energy and infrastructure ecosystem. Team LeadershipLead and develop a geographically dispersed business development team. Implement best practices in pipeline management, forecasting, CRM utilization, and commercial governance. Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and execution excellence.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Economics, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.15+ years of experience in business development, commercial strategy, infrastructure, utilities, energy services, real estate development, or other asset-intensive industries.
Demonstrated success leading large, complex commercial transactions with multi-year sales and development cycles.
Strong experience in:
- Deal structuring
- Pricing strategy
- Contract negotiations
- Financial modeling and investment analysis
- Risk management
- Executive-level customer engagement
Proven leadership experience managing and developing high-performing commercial teams.
Ability to travel nationally approximately 50%.Preferred Experience
District energy systems, central utility plants, thermal energy networks, combined heat and power (CHP), distributed energy resources, microgrids, or utility infrastructure.
Data center development and energy infrastructure.
Public-private partnerships (P3s).Salesforce or similar CRM platforms.
Experience presenting to executive leadership, investment committees, or boards of directors.
