She started making tech explainer videos at 13 to help her grandma understand technology. Today, she takes audiences on a field trip to the future - through conversations with the world’s most brilliant founders and adventures that explore the bleeding-edge technology that will rewire our world. The goal: leave people smarter, more optimistic about the future, and ready to build the next big thing.
Previous episodes have featured incredible leaders like Sam Altman, Tim Cook, Demis Hassabis, Mark Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai, and amazing innovations like Supersonic Planes, Quantum Computers and Designer Babies. Jacklyn also guest lectures at Harvard, MIT, Cornell, the U.S. Congress, and more.
About The Next Big Thing
The Next Big Thing makes optimistic technology videos that take viewers on field trips to the future with the founders and builders shaping what comes next. Our goal is to help people understand technology, feel optimistic about the future, and energized about their agency to build it.
Our ambition is to become the biggest and best technology YouTube brand, reaching millions of people, creating videos that shape culture, and inspiring the next generation of builders and founders. We want to be the place that founders feel seen in a way they have never felt seen before, and view ourselves as being the builder's best friend.
Our Culture:
This is a high-ownership startup environment with a fast pace, high standards, and periods of intensity around shoots and releases. We value flexibility, initiative, and people who are willing to step beyond a hyper-defined job description (ironic!) when the work calls for it.
We want to set ambitious goals that we can realistically execute. As NBT grows, this role will grow too, and we will figure out that evolution together.
Role Outline
Creative Leadership: You’ll work closely with Jacklyn to shape the creative vision for NBT’s long-form videos, from identifying ideas and defining each episode’s core thesis to shaping the story, visuals, and final cut.
You’ll bring strong editorial judgment to scripts, guests, questions, scenes, titles, thumbnails, and packaging. You should have exceptional taste, strong storytelling instincts, and an obsession with making the future feel epic.
Operational Excellence: You’ll own the process that turns ambitious ideas into finished videos, including production plans, schedules, shoots, crews, travel, post-production, and delivery.
You’ll keep multiple projects moving, create clarity around priorities and deadlines, and build systems that allow NBT to produce more ambitious work consistently.
Content Outline
Long-Form Content: You will own the development and production of NBT’s long-form slate, from initial idea through final delivery. That means helping shape what we make, how we tell each story, and what it takes to get each episode over the finish line. You’ll work closely with Jacklyn throughout the process, then lead the team of editors, animators, crew, and collaborators needed to bring the work to life.
Our current formats include:
World-Class Interviews: Deeply researched conversations with the founders, CEOs, and builders shaping the future.
Field Trips to the Future: On-location explainers from the frontier of technology.
24 Hours With: Immersive, story-driven profiles of extraordinary builders.
You’ll help evolve these formats and develop new ones as NBT grows.
Short-Form Video: While your primary focus will be long-form, short-form is an NBT-wide priority. You’ll work closely with NBT’s Head of Shorts to make sure every interview, field shoot, and production creates exceptional short-form opportunities, including cutdowns and original Shorts that bring viewers into NBT’s long-form world.
When bandwidth allows, you may also review, pitch, write, and shape short-form videos alongside the shorts team.
