About the Opportunity:
We are supporting a rapidly scaling data center company that is hiring a Mechanical Engineer into its Modular R&D team. This business builds gigawatt-scale data centers in months rather than years, and that speed lives in the modular product. The data center is engineered as a manufactured unit rather than a construction project, and this role sits right at the center of that. This is a hands-on product engineering role, not a consultancy design seat. You will take mechanical systems from concept through released drawings, first article and rate production, on a compressed schedule where the factory is building from your work the same month you release it.
Key Responsibilities:
• Engineer the mechanical systems of the modular product: cooling, piping and airflow from concept through to released drawings• Own the liquid cooling loops, pumps and heat rejection design that the modular product's density depends on• Solve the integration problems where mechanical meets structural and electrical: routing, interfaces and tolerances where the disciplines collide• Support the factory and the field, answering mechanical RFIs same-day and engineering fixes into the next revision• Prototype and validate: mockups, fit checks and first-article reviews you attend in person• Take designs from concept to the manufacturing line in weeks rather than months• Design repeatability in from the start so drawings, tolerances and BOMs hold up under rate manufacturing What We're Looking For• Hands-on mechanical engineering experience on complex physical products or modular construction• Experience designing cooling, piping and airflow systems from concept through to released drawings• Ability to produce drawing packages that build clean, with the instinct to fix the drawing rather than the workaround when a fabricator does call• Experience working across mechanical, structural and electrical interfaces, including routing, tolerances and integration points where the disciplines collide• Experience supporting production launches of your own designs through first article and into rate manufacturing• Strong understanding of how engineering decisions affect manufacturability, repeatability and cost at volume• A practical, hands-on engineering mindset with a willingness to attend mockups, fit checks and first-article reviews in person• Ability to iterate quickly without losing configuration control• Comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where decisions often need to be made quickly• Strong communication skills, with the ability to turn factory and field questions around the same day• A collaborative approach to problem solving rather than throwing issues over the wall to the next discipline The above is a starting point rather than a checklist. If you do not fit the role exactly but can point to where you would, that is worth a conversation.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in one or more of the following would be particularly valuable:• Liquid cooling depth• Sheet metal and piping design• 3D CAD mastery (Solid Works, Inventor or Revit)• Design for Manufacturing instincts• Modular or prefabricated manufacturing• New product introduction and first-article builds• Data center infrastructure• High-growth or startup environments The Human This role is best suited to an engineer who wants to see their designs become physical products. You should enjoy being close to production, talking directly with the people building the product and solving problems as they happen rather than reviewing them weeks later from behind a desk. You do not need to have come from a data center background. What matters is that you understand your technical area, can work effectively in a manufacturing environment and are comfortable taking ownership of problems from identification through resolution. The environment is fast-paced, highly ambitious and execution-focused. The successful candidate will play a critical role in turning engineering intent into a manufactured product as the operation scales.
