We’re especially interested in technicians with experience in avionics, aircraft electrical and wiring, sheet metal, fabrication, or aircraft restoration. Garmin installation experience is highly desirable. You don't need to be an expert in every area. If you have a strong background in one or more of these fields, a good attitude, and the motivation to continue learning, we want to hear from you. This Isn't Your Typical Maintenance Position Our work goes beyond routine oil changes, tires, and scheduled maintenance. We specialize in custom projects where you'll have the opportunity to build, troubleshoot, fabricate, and use your problem-solving skills. Projects may include: Garmin avionics installations Autopilot installations Custom instrument panel fabrication and installation Aircraft electrical system modifications Complete and partial aircraft rewiring Custom wiring and harness fabrication Sheet-metal fabrication and modification Electrical and avionics troubleshootingADS-B, GPS/NAV/COM, EFIS, audio, and engine monitoring installations Removal of legacy avionics and wiring Aircraft restoration and modernization projects One project may have you fabricating and wiring a new instrument panel, while the next could involve installing an autopilot, troubleshooting a difficult electrical problem, or helping completely modernize an older aircraft.
What We're Looking For:
Current FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate General aviation experience Aircraft electrical and wiring experience Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical data Sheet-metal or fabrication experience is highly desirable Garmin avionics installation experience is highly desirable Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills Experience using aircraft tooling, multimeters, crimping tools, and test equipment Attention to detail and pride in clean, professional workmanship Dependable, motivated, and willing to learn Able to work independently as well as part of a small team Experience with Cessna, Piper, Beechcraft, and other general aviation aircraft is a plus. Experience performing 14 CFR 91.411 and 91.413 pitot/static and transponder testing and inspections is also a plus. Garmin Experience We're particularly interested in applicants with experience installing, configuring, or troubleshooting Garmin equipment, including: GTN / GTN Xi navigatorsGI 275G3X TouchGFC 500 / GFC 600GTX transponders and ADS-B systems Garmin audio panelsG1000 systemsCAN bus and ARINC 429 interfaces Garmin system configuration, calibration, and checkout About Walt’s Avionics Walt’s Avionics is a growing FAA-certified repair station and Garmin dealer based at McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad, CA. We specialize in avionics installations, aircraft electrical systems, troubleshooting, custom fabrication, and aircraft modernization. Our work is hands-on and project-driven. Our technicians have the opportunity to be involved in the entire project—from initial teardown and fabrication through wiring, installation, configuration, testing, and return to service. As a newer company in a major growth phase, we're looking for someone who wants to grow with the business and take pride in the work that leaves our hangar. We value craftsmanship, problem-solving, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn. You don't need to know everything—we're willing to teach and develop the right person—but you do need to bring a strong work ethic, be teachable, and want to continually improve your skills. If you're an A&P with experience in Garmin avionics, aircraft electrical and wiring, sheet metal, fabrication, or general aviation maintenance, we'd like to hear from you. If you enjoy building and troubleshooting more than simply performing routine maintenance, you'll fit well with the type of work we do.
