Final Filing Date: 10/11/2026 Job Description and Duties*Only candidates who have already established eligibility will be considered for this recruitment.*Under the general direction of the Director of Homeownership Program, the Housing Finance Officer (Single Family) leads the Special Programs and Program Analysis unit, providing high-level project and program management, leading or assisting in program design or refinement, and directing housing policy and business analysis functions to ensure timely and effective implementation of CalHFA programs to fulfill the Agency's business needs and policy objectives.
Desirable Qualifications: In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  • Work experience with mortgage lending, housing finance, land development, land use planning, and/or land use economics.
  • Experience implementing or administering State or Local housing or community development programs
  • Experience designing new housing or community development programs based on specific policy goals and objectives.
  • Experience with program/project planning
  • Strong communication & analytical skills
  • Experience providing training and guidance to team members

Working Conditions: Hybrids telework schedules are available. The amount of telework is at CalHFA's discretion. IN-PERSON ATTENDANCE WILL BE REQUIRED WEEKLY.CalHFA is a high-rise building conveniently located in downtown Sacramento with access to public transportation (light rail and bus) and freeways (I-5, 99, and Business 80). It is a block from Downtown Commons (DOCO), the Golden 1 Center, many restaurants and shopping. CalHFA employees also have access to an on-site ATM and gym located in the building. Candidates who are new to state service will be placed at the minimum of the salary range.

Minimum Qualifications
Housing Finance Officer (Single Family): Either I One year of experience in the mortgage operations of the California Housing Finance Agency at a level of responsibility equivalent to that of a Housing Finance Specialist. Or II Experience: Five years of mortgage loan experience, including one year of responsibility at the management level in a commercial bank, mortgage bank, savings and loan association, State housing finance agency, or in a closely related institution. (A Master's Degree in Planning, Economics, Business, Government, Finance or a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.) and Education: Equivalent to graduation from college, preferably with a degree in urban planning, economics, business, government, finance or a related field.
