Skills for Chicago Is a Chicago-based nonprofit that removes barriers to employment by eliminating biases that disqualify candidates unnecessarily. Working with local and global companies, Skills brings opportunities to neighborhoods and municipalities throughout the Chicagoland area. To be eligible for Skills for Chicago services, candidates must reside in Illinois or Indiana, be authorized to work in the United States, and be either unemployed or underemployed. Dot Foods-University Park Founded in 1960, Dot Foods is North America’s largest food industry redistributor and one of the largest private, family-owned businesses in the country with 13 distribution centers in the U.S.; a corporate sales office in St. Louis, Missouri; two locations in Canada; and a joint venture in Mexico. Started by Robert and Dorothy Tracy in the small Midwestern town of Mt. Sterling, Illinois, Dot now delivers to all 50 states and over 50 countries. Dot employs more than 4,000 individuals and hasn't had a single layoff.
