Traffic Manager/Dispatcher We are looking for a Traffic Manager/Dispatcher for a well-established and successful manufacturing company located in Matthews, NC. The company has a strong reputation and a stable operation, and this position plays an important role in managing the company’s transportation and trucking operations. We are looking for a hands-on, organized leader with strong transportation and logistics experience who can effectively manage people, fleet resources, compliance requirements, and competing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Location: On-site – Matthews, NC
Salary: $90,000–$100,000 annually
Key Responsibilities: Transportation Operations Oversee the daily operations of the company's trucking and transportation division. Coordinate and route inbound and outbound shipments to ensure timely and efficient delivery. Direct dispatching and routing activities and monitor company vehicles and drivers. Manage daily schedules, assignments, and workflow for transportation personnel. Coordinate transportation needs with Production, Sales, Project Management, and other internal departments. Monitor delivery schedules and proactively address delays, service issues, or customer concerns. Ensure efficient utilization of company trucks, trailers, drivers, and other transportation resources. Identify opportunities to improve transportation efficiency, service, and operating costs. Leadership & Supervision Hire, train, supervise, and develop transportation and trucking personnel. Oversee the daily workflow, schedules, routes, and assignments of transportation employees. Hold drivers and transportation personnel accountable for safety, attendance, performance, customer service, and compliance expectations. Conduct timely and constructive performance evaluations. Address performance, attendance, and conduct issues in accordance with company policy. Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and professionalism. Fleet & Equipment Oversee the company's transportation fleet, including trucks, trailers, and related equipment. Direct preventative maintenance, repairs, inspections, and replacement of transportation equipment. Ensure vehicles and equipment are properly maintained and available to support operational needs. Monitor fleet-related expenses and identify opportunities for cost control and improved utilization. Ensure transportation equipment is operated and maintained in accordance with applicable safety and regulatory requirements. DOT & Regulatory Compliance Maintain comprehensive knowledge of and ensure compliance with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and applicable federal and state transportation regulations. Oversee the company's DOT/FMCSA compliance program and ensure transportation operations remain in compliance with applicable requirements. Manage and maintain Driver Qualification (DQ) files, including required licenses, medical certifications, MVRs, and other required documentation. Ensure compliance with FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse requirements and applicable DOT drug and alcohol testing regulations. Monitor and maintain compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) requirements and applicable electronic logging requirements. Oversee required vehicle inspections, maintenance records, and other DOT-required documentation. Maintain accurate and current DOT and transportation records. Monitor compliance and address deficiencies, violations, or safety concerns promptly. Coordinate and support DOT/FMCSA audits, inspections, and compliance reviews. Ensure drivers receive appropriate training regarding DOT regulations, safety requirements, and company transportation policies. Stay current on changes to DOT/FMCSA regulations and communicate applicable changes to management and transportation personnel. Financial & Operational Management Review and analyze transportation expenditures and other financial information. Develop and implement plans, policies, procedures, goals, and objectives that support efficient transportation operations. Assist with transportation budgets and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and control costs. Monitor transportation-related expenses and make recommendations for cost-effective operations. Work collaboratively with other managers and departments to support overall company operations. Culture & Teamwork Demonstrate and promote the organization's core values in daily work practices. Maintain professional and effective communication with employees, management, customers, vendors, and transportation partners. Lead by example and promote a positive, safe, and accountable work environment. Perform other related duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For: The ideal candidate will: Have strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and transportation compliance. Have experience managing driver qualification files, MVRs, Clearinghouse requirements, drug and alcohol testing, HOS, inspections, and DOT records. Be a strong people leader who can hold drivers and transportation personnel accountable. Be organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in addressing compliance and operational issues. Have strong problem-solving and communication skills. Be committed to safety, efficiency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, Business, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years of related transportation, logistics, or traffic management experience. Previous supervisory or management experience required. Demonstrated experience managing DOT/FMCSA compliance for a trucking or motor carrier operation. Strong working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and applicable federal and state transportation laws. Experience maintaining and auditing Driver Qualification (DQ) files and required driver documentation. Experience with FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements. Working knowledge of Hours of Service (HOS), electronic logging requirements, vehicle inspections, maintenance records, and other FMCSA compliance requirements. Experience supporting or managing DOT/FMCSA audits, inspections, or compliance reviews. Ability to monitor transportation operations and ensure drivers, vehicles, equipment, and documentation remain compliant. Knowledge of transportation operations, routing, dispatching, freight classifications, and logistics. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong logistical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
