Senior Project Accountant

About the Role: The Senior Project Accountant will provide accounting support for real estate development projects, with a strong focus on job cost and construction accounting, accounts payable, construction draws, cash management, and project cost tracking. This position will work closely with internal development and accounting teams as well as external stakeholders, including auditors, lenders, property management teams, and general contractors. The Senior Project Accountant will also provide guidance to Project Accountants and help strengthen accounting processes, documentation, and internal controls.

Key Responsibilities: Oversee job cost accounting and accounts payable for real estate development and construction projects. Maintain general ledgers for development entities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and capitalization of project costs. Reconcile intercompany accounts across enterprise and development entities. Prepare and review project-level trial balance reconciliations. Monitor and analyze development project cash balances. Support construction draws, funding requests, and project disbursements. Perform treasury and cash management activities for development projects. Prepare and maintain loan draw schedules and supporting documentation. Support year-end close and annual audits for development entities. Coordinate with auditors regarding cost certifications, eliminating entries, and required affordable housing documentation. Review project accounting activity and provide guidance to Project Accountants to ensure accuracy and compliance. Collaborate with development, construction, property management, and accounting teams to resolve accounting issues and keep projects moving forward. Help document and improve Real Estate Accounting policies and procedures to strengthen internal controls and standardize processes.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.5+ years of accounting experience, including significant construction accounting experience. Strong understanding of the construction lifecycle, project costs, and development accounting. Experience with job cost accounting, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and project-level accounting. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research issues, identify discrepancies, and determine appropriate solutions. Strong Excel skills, including SUMIF/SUMIFS, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and Pivot Tables. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through. Ability to work independently, ask questions, research solutions, and take ownership of assigned projects.

Work Environment: This is a hybrid position that may require occasional work at development or construction sites. The role may involve visiting active construction sites and working in both office and outdoor
